Thats really interesting actually! I like the way the circuit sections are labelled...if only all pcb manufacturers were so thoughtful make my job a hellava lot easier!

I wonder what most of those ICs are...probably transistor packages?

If they already need such a load of stuff for a monosynth I'm afraid a PolyVoyager (Memorymoog Mk II?) is totally out of the question .

Based upon Moog accessories and capabilities the only way you will get a poly with a Moog is through external add-ons.

I would be surprised if they were. Most likely opamps (and perhaps some DACs and analog MUXes and stuff?). In fact, I spy quite a few plain old LM324's (standard quad opamps) - nothing wrong with that, opamps are basically just transistors and resistors after all.

Was kind of waiting for some pictures like these Have you got any more details on the chips in there Qwave?

Right, but at this point I find myself wondering where all of the transistors are then - for example where is the transistor ladder for the VCF? It's mostly ICs and about a trillion resistors. I was sort of under the impression that the Voyager has a discrete signal path, but that's not what I'm seeing at all.

Yeah I kinda thought the Voyager had discrete analog components.... I was disappointed to see so many chips in the "analog" section.

Like DrJustice said, the transisters are in the opamps, which are some of the ICs you see.

Just because it's analog doesn't mean it's using discrete transistors. It rarely is, anymore.

As much as I drool over a Moog Voyager....That picture is scary.

From a reliability standpoint- there is too much to go wrong. This makes it clear why true analog synths are expensive.

Heh, I know. The question "where are all of the transistors?" was sort of rhetorical.

I know what an opamp is. I also realize that analog doesn't necessarily mean discrete. I just thought that the Voyager had a discrete signal path, and clearly it doesn't. No biggie. It's still a pretty sweet synth.

It is an analog synthesizer indeed.
Tons of transistors.
Microchips are nothing to do with being analog or digital.
Remember, microchips are just miniaturized transistors.
Seem like chips are used primarily for data storage and settings.

I am entertained by the fact that the main processor is basically just an expanded version of one that's nearly 30 years old....

An oldie but a goodie...

If it has the processing power needed, why bother with overkill, which adds expense & more stuff to go wrong.

(Just joined the club, late to the party)

The ICs on the analog board are a mix of opamps, CMOS demux, transistor arrays, and OTAs. Minimum necessary components for a programmable synth.

Here's some early model MiniMoog pictures with a VCF photo.
