Peavey Royal 8 and Marshall Guvnor2 plus clip

purchased from fellow Forumites Sudds (amp) and NeilRocks25 (pedal)

Got this little peavey royal 8 class A 5w valve amp and had done some research and found out that it hasn't got tons of gain but does nice cleans and a bluesey overdrive, anything else and you need a pedal. So I bought a pedal to go with it called the Marshall Guvnor 2 Plus.

Here is a little clip of the pedal and little valve amp, these small amps are still bloody loud even at 5w so I have the gain on the amp set at 2 and the master volume set at 1 and I have the pedal set for a heavy rock crunch.

The amp is close mic'd and has no reverb or no other eq. Guitar is my LP on the bridge pup.

There is no way I could have this amp set at more than 2 on the master volume it is silly loud.

The stock speaker in the amp is not great so I have ordered a celestion super 8 to replace it. total cost amp, pedal and upgraded speaker £90, I think it will be very cool for recording

Nice clip. I also put a Super 8 into my Royal 8, it was definitely an improvement. I think I paid about 165 EUR for the amp including the Celestion, nice amp IMHO for the money, I still like for cleans.

Agreed well worth a shot even at the new price, even better at the used price I got it for.

I am still waiting on the replacement speaker for this little amp but see if this clip sounds any better, basically the same clip but now has a 3 band eq added from the recording software and some delay/doubling. 2nd track is quieter than the first so may need to turn it up to hear any difference.

I will post some clean clips etc.. when I change the speaker, with and without fx.

I was in GC for strings and spotted a Royal 8 used mint for $100. Put in a couple JJ's and an alnico Jensen. Best practice amp I've owned.
