what is that box that sits on top of jack white's amps?

it looks like a wooden box with an input and an output.

anyone?

you can see it in the trailer for "it might get loud".

It's the amp head for his Silvertone. Unless you're talking about something else. He uses an Analogman channel switcher, that might be it.

It's his tone box... It's where he keeps his tone.

hmm. unless it is a rehoused trem probe in a wooden box. i don't know how to embed video, but you can see it in the first 10 or 15 seconds of the "it might get loud" trailer, and in that thread about jack whites tone.

it's a cut off the signal thingy. he sings in the vintage sounding mic and then he presses the lever and it trems it super hard... making it sound glitchy. I think he runs his guitar through it as well but i distinctly remember him using it on vocals.

I saw them at bonaroo btw and they were really really good. Metallica and plant/krause were the highlights for me but they were a close third. pearl jam fourth. catch the racs if you get a chance though.

This. It's a momentary killswitch. If you look on youtube there's live stuff where he uses it a bunch. Uses it for his vocals.

He uses the tremolo probe for that. This is the thing the OP is asking about:

There's a good shot of it at the begining of Rick Kid Blues here http://www.fromthebasement.tv/artist...ich-kids-blues. It looks like a troll-top desk or telegraph or something.

kinda looks like a crystal diode radio receiver. Maybe he runs his harp mic through it somehow, or maybe it's just decorative.
