I've heard that it's a good sounding amp, but I'd also read that at least in one instance, there were quality issues that required returning the original amp in exchange for another one. I think I'd wait a while and see how it goes.

IMO Marshall failed with this one. Too bad because I was ready to drop the cash on it. The thing gets harsh and fizzy real fast and overall just a thin sounding amp. The cleans were pretty good and the FX were decent but once you start to open up that gain on tap (
) it just disappoints. Low gain settings aren't that bad but anything beyond hard rock is where the amp fails.

Played one for about an hour at GC. I would get more use out of a MG series marshall. I mean that seriously, the mg would at least be a useable practice amp.
I had that haze cranked and tried many different EQ settings, but it got no where near any kind of marshall crunch that I've come to love. It just got harsh and sterile when I would turn up the gain, and clean is definately not anything special.I went in with cash in hand because of the lower price point, but no, pass for me thanks. try before you buy.

Really? That's terrible. The demos online sounded decent - looked like a Fender HRD killer... I guess Traynor YCV40 remains the true HRD killer!

Saying an AC30 is a HRD killer is like saying a Rickenbacker is a Gibson killer...

Try the Haze combo with a good OD pedal. The amp smokes when I hit the front with my Analogman DOD 308. Furthermore, it retains it's excellent gain and harmonic structure even at high master volume levels. Doesn't sound fizzy to me, in the least.
Now, for many of you "purists", the fact that this amp may need or benefit from a good OD pedal will immediately disqualify it. However, this amp takes pedals like a champ, and also sounds great when controlling gain with your guitar's volume knob. I admit to being from the other school of Amp thought...in that I prefer boosting a good tube amp with a good pedal, versus relying on the amp's intrinsic ability to achieve high gain. In other words, I prefer an amp which has great clean and crunch tones, setting it to just breakin' up, and then pushing it over the edge and beyond, via an OD or distortion pedal. The Marshall Haze 40 Watt combo has a perfect weight and form factor, and the built-in post pre-amp FX (e.g chorus, delay, reverb) makes it even more versatile...grab and go.

I bought one as soon as I heard it. I don't think it sounds harsh or fizzy. With the guitars I'm using, I'd say it sounds really nice. Is it a $3000 amp? No. Does it sound good for $600? Yup. Turned up is where it really shines. It's like any other tube Marshall, louder the better.
I bought the 40 watter. I have had no issues. Also, I don't use the effects that much. They aren't the best, but they are nice and usable. I just don't really use effects. A little reverb from the amp, and I'm good. Overall, I think it's very nice for the money. Tremendous value.

This one, for example? Beautiful tone, relatively low volume, ability to mix between tube colors... and at exactly the same price point at the Haze 15W head...
![]() Or if you need more power (the 100W version is the same price as the Haze; the 50W Vox head is $50 cheaper): ![]() Then, of course, there's this. Haven't played one myself, but generally they have good reviews... Ah, but it's not "A Marshall"... ![]()

Played one (40 watt combo) at GC yesterday. I won't be buying one. Looked cheap and sounded thin and muddy at the same time. Not as much gain as I thought there should have been. Definite fail by Marshall in my opinion. Clean channel wasn't all bad though. Didn't even get far enough with it to turn the effects on so I don't know about them.

A) I DO own this amp (I didn't just play one for a few minutes at GC) B) If you had checked my SIG, you would note that I also own the Egnater Rebel 20, a Marshall Vintage Modern 2466 head, and a Blackstar HT-5 (not listed is Peavey Classic 30, as well). I feel that the Haze 40W Combo (not speaking for the 15 watt head, as I haven't tried that one) measures up favorably to the Rebel...and arguably is a bit more versatile, given the built-in FX. Or maybe I totally mis-read your post...and you were being sarcastic, in which case disregard this particular reply. ![]()

Since I own it also, the only amps I can compare it to are at my house. I don't own an Egnater. I do however, own a Shiva EL34 1x12 combo. Comparing it to that amp is not really fair, but the Haze really has nothing to be ashamed of.
I bought the amp to take to rehearsals because the Shiva is frigging heavy. I've had two hernia surgeries, and I don't really need any more. For what I want this amp to do, it sounds great. It's like a lighter version of my big amp. Sure it doesn't feel quite as organic, or shimmer the same way on the clean channel, but it gets the job done with a tone that is clearly based in the same ballpark. I can't compare it any of those 15 watters some have mentioned, because I just need more power than that.

Find a Studio 15 instead. They cost about the same or less, great amps. I bought mine off a guy here. Thanks hobo!
