Whats more pathetic than music awards?

I've been a full voting member of the Grammy's for over a decade and I always give my ballot to a friend.I couldn't vote in good faith for anything that gets nominated and believe me when I tell you, it's totally rigged.

But more than this we have the American Music Awards,The Country Music Awards (which seems strange seeing how modern Country is actually pop), MTV Awards and others, all which perpetuate a fraud. IMHO there should only be two awards shows: one for only technical achievements(voted on strictly by qualified NARAS members) and the other for publicly voted- for "entertainers". These popularity contests are just that, a contest to shamelessly self-congratulate each other for how much money their act made that year cloaked under the auspice of "outstanding musical achievement". Few acts actually possess music abilities which are noteworthy and worth some sort of recognition by their piers but certainly its a very low percentage and certainly doesn't merit the the national TV time and credibility it receives.
I have not viewed any music awards show in about a decade. The last I saw was so embarrassing, it maid me feel uncomfortable watching to see not only how bad the performers/songs were but how self righteous they were about it and how the audience, primarily full of industry insiders, were so fanatic about their support.
The Grammy's should have categories like: Best Entertainment Lawyer, Best Return on Promotional Investment Ratio,Major Label Most Vended by Walmart, Most Effective Ad-Revenue Campaign With Clear Channel, Quickest Mass-Market Radio Saturation Campaign, Best ProTools Band. Best Use of Vocal Pitch Correction, Myspace Band With The Most Views. etc

I agree there are way too many awards in the acting profession, but you cant fake good/bad: acting, direction, script writing etc. I'm not saying the best pic/best actors nods are always accurate, but I've never heard a director or actor get up on stage and thank God about how good they think they are.
At least they (the Oscars) dedicate a whole separate night to technical awards, and honor foreign works and works of small budgets, unpopular formats, and documentaries. The music awards shows, by comparison, offer nothing so altruistic.(ok, except for best Polka album, that they play up as in industry joke)

Agreed. The problem is how many CD's are released per year in all genres? More than 1,000? There's no way any voting members can be knowledgeable enough to make informed choices.

By comparison, the number of movies released per year is far less and voters can presumably make informed choices.

Indeed. I haven't watched the Grammies ever, and the VMA's? Not in years.

I'm sure if you take every random little band and director into accounts, there are thousands and thousands and thousands of music/film released every year.
