The POD can sound pretty huge

I use my Bogner Shiva for a lot of tracking but sometimes the POD does the trick pretty well considering it's all software

just guitar and drums

no bass instruments except for the kick

Not bad?

Sounds great! Were you using a POD 2.0? Or a POD XT?

Thanks!

It's a PODxT

I bought the Gear Box plug-ins too so I've been experimenting with recording using my amp and then re-amping with the pod. That way you can bypass the converters in the pod for a better sound...but this little piece was just done with the pod on its own

PODs are really, really good if you know how to use them. I use the recto models most of the time, and I need to back off of the gain and bass considerably, then record about four tracks of guitar, it sounds huge.

That's a custom guitar with a SD Lil' 59 bridge pup

Models: can't recall exactly but there were five different patches. Three had some distortion and two were clean. I know there was a Marshall on the left and a Twin in there somewhere. I think it was the Uberschall up the middle.

The Xt is quite amazing. Ive had it from day one and with all the Model packs and latest upgrades it seems that it is almost like a poor mans million dollar guitar rig studio. With VG head phones or the right power amp these can fool even the most seasoned tube snob(btw I use and love tubes also.).
There are so many options what with pre and posting of effects as well as mic spacing, cabs, 70 plus amp models and some pretty darn close ala Marshalls,Bogner,Diezel,5150 etc...
And they havent retired it yet so more amps and updates are sure too come and one of the reasons I went with Line6 over other modeers.
The stomps in front of amp models is the key IMO as well as using the Roatary
Leslie model as a tone fattener rather than delay or chorus. And use a bit less gain than you would normally when recording as it makes all the difference between a swarm of bees and that gainy brown sound.

And nice sounding clip. Settings?

Yeah, turn down the gain on all the patches, I agree.

I think it was like this:

Uberschall crunch up the middle (no effects)
Marshall JTM on the left with a splash of verb
Soldano on the right with some delay
Fender Twin at left-center with chorus
Fender Deluxe at right-center with tape echo

use a high pass filter to roll off any mud that builds up in the low mids

Thumbs up

Nice clip.

I am really intrigued by your use of dissonance.

Would you mind sharing the chord progressions?

(Ain't gonna steal it, just trying to learn more about using dissonance properly)

thanks,

I don't have my guitar in front of me at the moment. However, in general I think about dissonance in terms of playing two different dyads or triads against each other. For example, the two opening chords are a Dbmaj triad with a D/A dyad in the bottom and then resolve it to a D power chord.

The study of tetrachords (not actually chords) is a good place to begin. You might take a look at the resource archive at http://www.gtroblq.com as I have a lot of lessons locked up there that would get you a long way along on this road.

Sounded Great! How many guitar tracks did you lay down?

Also that chord you played could also be called an A Maj 11(b13).

Yeah, so many inversions and ways to think about note constellations.

There are five guitar tracks in this thing.

Marco Oppedisano added a solo to this piece not too long ago (it's on one of my MySpace pages) and I need to go back, now, and add in some bass and maybe some synth pads.

Thanks!
