Tape spare pick to your guitar

I swear, sometime recently, I saw a pic of a guy playing a gig and he had a spare pic somehow taped to the top of his guitar, above the soundhole. Anyone ever seen someone do this? If so, how, exactly do you do it? I rarely lose a pic but it does happen.

Here's one option:

Ice Pix, with what they claim are mini suction cups. However it's really just an adhesive surface that loses its stickiness quickly. But it's sticky enough to stay on your guitar, and the adhesive surface can be cleaned / restored somewhat with tape.

I had a set, removed the pads entirely, and now they're some of my favorite picks. The clown vomit one is my good luck pick.

When I play out I keep one in my mouth. It's there if I drop my pick while playing...and anyway, I often keep a pick in my mouth, whatever I'm doing (oral fixation--former smoker). Best ones for this are the ones with holes in them, so if you aspirate the pick, there's still an airway.

And by the way, the orange ones taste best.

They (whoever the ubiquitous "they" are) make a little rubber thingie that fits in between the strings on the headstock which has a slit in either side into which you can place extra picks - it holds them securely, but they can be easily removed. After I dropped a pick right at the most dramatic point of a song on stage I rushed out and bought one for each of my guitars.

Wedgie. Couple bucks.

Have one on almost all my guitars. It's a bitch when I drop a pick in my family room. I am afraid the cat will think I'm unprofessional if I have to stop a performamce to hunt for a pick.

Those ICE picks above are excellent if you like a celluloid sound. The little pad of micro-suction cups makes a great gripping surface. Don't stick too well after awhile on the guitar and not at all on a satin finish.

I no longer have it but my Alvarez MF80C that had a barn-door style preamp in it was pretty easy to store extra picks on. I would just wedge a couple in the slot between the part of the preamp that slid out and the housing.

Double sided Scotch Tape works well if you want to do that or even the thicker double sided tape though it's going to be white. You do have to remove it after a gig if you don't want to have it react with the finish, or worse, really stick on.

You can also put a pick holder on your mic stand.

One can easily be made from soft closed cell foam rubber as well.

I think Phil Keaggy uses duct tape on his pick, when he chooses to play with one.

I always keep several million in the pockets of my blue jeans. Just pull 'em out of my pocket if I drop one. Or I pick up the one I dropped on the floor.

That's the pick holder I was thinking of. I have one for my studio stand and have given one to a buddy for his live work.

When I use a pick I play with a Dunlop Stubby. [the small one] I glue 100 grit sandpaper over half the side of the pick that I keep up towards the thumb. I never drop picks now. To explain, I have slight nerve damage to my thumb from a dog bite a few years ago. It's just numbness and I couldn't feel a pick with it. Needless to say I couldn't hang on to them either. The upside to this is in the 2 years before I got this idea my fingerpicking became much improved. Now when I use a pick not only do I never drop them they also never turn in my hand. Best pick control that I've ever had. Anyhow works for me.

There is also a product called Gorilla Snot that makes your pick-holding fingers so tacky that you will not drop the pick. It stinks, but it works.
Me, I prefer to use Wedgie picks which are indented and knurled for better grip and to use the Wedgie rubber thingie to hold extras in case worst comes to worst.

Yup...Love mine, and they also make an inexpensive yet popular gift for pickin' partners!

Gorilla Snot...a name you can trust!

And it comes as a hair-gel, too!

Well, having once shared my life w/ a Hamadryas Baboon (see picture of a similar beast) named "Sam", snot, while never in short supply, should be the least of one's worries...when angered, they throw feces ("poop", to the OJ crowd)!

Sam had the unfortunate fate of being owned by a couple of nitwits who bought him as a cute tiny baby and grew to be terrified of him as a somewhat-less cute 145-lb adult, so he spent 13 years in a cage 4'T X 6'L X 3W' in their garage, causing him to be hunchbacked and very emotionally/intellectually deprived. The owners gave him to my wife, but told her he was a Howler monkey (a much smaller species)...when I went to pick him up, I felt so sorry for him that I brought him home, anyway, had an electronics wiz buddy modify an electric dog collar and a "hidden fence" system, so he could live in my barn and have access, unfettered/uncaged to 150' feet in any direction, and searched diligently for a better home for him...finally found him a home at a primate refuge in Arizona, where he still lives.

Oddly enough, after being released from his prison, he eventually became much more tractable, learned to tolerate a leash and muzzle, and would ride around w/ me in my truck.

I understand PETA is launching a protest. Word is that naked women will be walking around major cities, playing guitar and singing "Save the Snot".

I have this little thing called a PickPocket. It's a pocket (!) that velcros around your guitar strap. Does the job for me.

Cheers !
