at the heart of it all, your still getting paid for what is/was a hobby, i enjoy guitar and geology, even if i eventually get paid for both and it starts to make me think im not excited and motivated by it anymore, i can immediately ask myself what i would rather be doing, except winning the lottery or marrying into money, both which have baggage and create boredom, i really can't come up with anything, and thats the point.

It was a cheesy Sci-Fi miniseries that aired in the early 80s. Those of us who were born back then may remember it. They're just making a new series out of it.

I need to get back on that iPhone dev bandwagon. I started, then kinda got sidetracked with other things.

yeah, but you've only been a code whore for 10. I used to like what I do too until I got into the biz. I still liked it for the first couple of decades, but lately....

I did commercials for a while. rule of thumb there is "clients know shit." now that I've gone corporate, I realize that it still applies. there's always a client.

depends what you want I guess. I never did this for the money, I did it because I wanted to create a "work of art". I seriously doubt that will ever happen now. nothing kills art like commerce.

if i was sitting around doing the exact same shit; i suspect i would get tired of it. there're parts of every project i do that are basically the same - and yeah, i hate doing that shit; but it's the OTHER stuff that keeps me coming back.

hell, it's nearly inherently impossible to NOT keep having stuff to learn in the field i'm in - everything's constantly evolving. web and device based stuff isn't static by nature. and to stay relevant (and, thus, working) in this business, you have to stay on top of it.

so i guess that's why i still enjoy it.

It's totally different when you do it as a kid, for fun, vs. when you do it in a corporate environment and have to put up with asshats who suck the joy and creativity from you every day. Trust me.
The best thing you ever did was probably quitting that perm gig you had and going freelance. THAT is why you haven't burned out yet.
