I have the cd.

Voodoo Chile was just sick!

I have found every EC DVD extremely boring. I might have to pick up the garden DVD though.

Anyone that has ever claimed Clapton can't play is an idiot.

Maybe some folks don't find him as inspiring in the last 10 years as he was in the first 10 of his career, but the man can play... very tastefully... great tone.

What's not to love?

Never said he can't play, great musician.

However, I can care less about his adult contemporary soft rock.

And he has never thrilled me live, not in the three times I saw him nor in either the Cream or Winwood stuff I saw. If I go see someone live, I want some sort of energy and symbiotic relationship with the audience, EC never delivered that. It's like he was in an empty room running through all the studio versions of his songs.

Live DVD's are hard to deliver on. Without being in the audience, you lose the thrill being there. Plus at a concert you can't hear everything; once you are sitting in the living room, you here how bad the mix was, how one musician is out of time, how some songs sound thin, etc....all the things you would never have noticed live.

But, as noted above, EC never grabbed me live in person either. And i gave him plenty of chances...Journeyman tour, Cradle tour, I even saw the tour (didn't buy the tickets) for the hideously boring reptile album.

EC is pretty brilliant on a good night.

However, put him next to Jeff Beck, as occurred on JB's Live at Ronnie Scott's DVD, and he seems....I dunno. just kinda ordinary and run-of-the-mill.

Clapton's becoming a bigger influence on me now, now that I've started listening to the Layla record and some Cream stuff.

I have always liked EC, and love SOME of his music.

I have seen him three times - the first two (Crossroads and Journeyman tours), he stretched out a bit and blew me away. The third (the Reptile tour), I thought he was pretty much going through the motions, had a horrible selection of tunes, and I thought the band was completely out of sync (Steve Gadd my ass...).

I think as recently as maybe 10 years ago, he could deliver live if he was pushed, but today I don't think he cares that much about whether he "blows people away". At this stage of his career, and in his 60s, maybe he feels that he doesn't need to. Prior to his last tour, didn't he mention he was not going to tour anymore ???

Clapton can certainly play. He hasnt written anything memorable in a while but as far as Playing he is still on his game.
Anyone saying he cant play is just being sarcastic.

Nobody says that.

What people do say is that he's on auto-pilot a good portion of the time any more. Maybe he's tired of playing guitar, but starting in the mid eighties he began to mail 'em in every now and then, and the percentage has been creeping up over the years.

Seems that he's reversed the trend of late, but I'm not sure that's not my imagination.

You can only link the same pentatonic-based licks so many different ways over 45 years.

I've always loved his playing and most of his songs. I do see a lot of posts about guys that are too "kwel" to like him though. To each his own I guess. Some guys like burgers and others prefer filet mignon.

No skin off my nose.

He's not boring. He's just so good, he makes it look too easy...

I sat 2nd row for Clapton & Winwood. His playing is very good but it's not the same Clapton in Cream and The Bluesbreakers.

Very few artist, in any field, have the same hunger and energy in their '60's aah they had when they were 20.

I'm glad EC and SW hooked up after so many years.

I hope that when I'm in my 60's I can have the desire to keep playing!

I think they're going to make a cd of new material... if so, it could mean a complete world tour.

I would go!

I thought I read somewhere that he was called slowhand because he was always breaking strings and was not the fastest at changing them, drawing a slow handclap from the audience.
