I think it's atrend that occurs when people in "niche" markets find out they can make more money in the mainstream...witness Tim McGraw's acting carreer...

eclecticism is a GOOD thing...

I start at AC/DC, wind through blues (3 kings, albert collins, son seals, robert johnson) outlaw country (waylon, johnny cash) metal (down, metallica, megadeth) jazz (dimeola, weather report, miles davis) classical (Bach Beethoven, mozart) alt country (Drive by truckers, ccrw, centro-matic) jam band (Gov't mule) hair metal (cinderella, tesla) shred (satriani, vai, G3) and end at ZZ Top...

and I still buy CD's...because I'm old and stubborn...

I thought Permanent Vacation , Pump, and Get A Grip were as good as any of their early stuff, collectively.

I hate Aerosmith from the 70s and 80s, but I dig them from the 90s. I'm not sad that they're hanging it up though, they're well beyond their prime.

Here is what's going to get me on the official HCEG blacklist...... I think the Rolling Stone have sucked since day one. Keef is a disgrace to humanity. Those skeletons need to realize they're dead and find a coffin.

This post probably contains material that some users will find objectionable. They can fuck off and go find something in the New Age section.

i don't think the stones are all that either raven...nor are the doors, zep, sabbath,or floyd...don't get me wrong, there's stuff i like from all of them, but they aren't that spectacular...that's the beautiful thing about music though...the subjectivity...

And also with this! Never cared for the Stones. But Aerosmith OTOH, is, IMO, one of the best bands that ever was. I am saddened that they are throwing in the towel (maybe). I know that some of the newer stuff wasn't all that, but it's Still better than a lot of the mainstream Crap that has been coming out. I've never seen them live, Always wanted to, and now I guess I'll have to wait on a Reunion tour. For those of you slamming them for their part in Guitar Hero, what about Slash with Bill Gates? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQcub...eature=related Or Satriani with Funtwo? http://vodpod.com/watch/2180207-guit...o-youtube-live

The point has been made that, for most people, money talks. And Aerosmith made alot of money over the years...and the more you get (and get in the habit of spending it), the more you want. Why would they walk away from that? Would you? Even if you started out as bad boy rockers and the music and entertainment industry drug you into the mainstream, would you really flip them off and tell them to keep their money? I doubt it....

Most times, fame gives you little choice as to what direction your career goes. If you want continued success in the fast changing and fickle music industry, you have to be careful what you choose to say "no" to. Offers come in, managers push for an agreement, because that's how they make money too, and before you know it, you're subbing for Regis and sitting next to Kelly on daytime TV. It's not just about the band, or the fans that loved you when you were rough around the edges, but all those who have not become part of your musical career as supporting players and their lives and families. You've become a "company", no doubt, like it or not...because success and a growing popularity/career creates that.

um...Cross Canadian Ragweed did...they retained all creative rights to their music when they signed with universal south, cody told tony(a big time producer) what's his name to fuck off when he tried to change this time around to make it more radio friendly(even wrote a song about it,record exec off of the mission california album),gets virtualy no air play(and doesn't really care),and still does an around $1-2 million in hard ticket sales every year...they just do what they do.for them it's about the fans and the music, the money is just a perk...on the other hand,i know guys personally that would wear a pink tutu and play a pastele daisy rock for $1...
