The Search Function on HC has been a sore point with me for...forever.

Seems like TalkBass is able to have a googlesearch function added right into their vBulletin - but then again, they are on version 3.6.12 whereas a quick peek at the code shows that HC is still on 3.6.7. That might have something to do with the search function being borked, or at least them not being able to implement potential work-a-rounds... of course, never mind the fact that both sites are hideously outdated and the most recent version is actually 3.8.4... let's hope that the update to HC2.0 includes a full jump to the most recent version of vBulletin... now, if only I can talk the mods over at bossarea into switching away from that hideous software they use, lol...

Will it be improved, or is this the final version?
Even in advanced search I found no option to search by user name.

Fortunately this one still works:

I don't think the current search function will be changed until we make the switch to 2.0. But that day is coming very soon (sorry I can't be more specific).

Thanks for including the link that still works for UN search. I've upgraded the forum announcement to reflect that.

And thanks for your patience.

Search doesn't seem to be working for me, though. I tried searching for known words in KSS in both thread titles and in posts and got nada. For example, I know there's posts and thread titles with "friday" in them, and it comes up bupkis...?

Cool

I searched for some G&L info and came up with this Never Ending Archive page. Had A Thousand Posts listed Too Small to read. Seems Hacky.

it is apparently the best they can do, it is using Google search engine, and it finds stuff even in people's sigs. I cannot wait until 2.0 is here, or they figure out how to fix search, whichever comes first... heck, I'll be patient for a "forum upgrade" outage and I think most everyone else would too, if it fixed search!

Believe me, we in "mod/admin land" feel your pain (to quote B. Clinton). I'm not just an HC moderator, I'm also a user (to quote the Hair Club president). The forums are a great source of info, but its use as a resource is limited when I can't search for "impedance" in "thread titles only."

We are working on it. If anything happens regarding search functionality, Craig Andeton or I will report back here. Eboe, we're conscripting you as a beta tester when the new search goes live!
