It's still up to the consumer, if he wants to pay extra for the performance of the Danley.
In this country (US) the manufacturer and distributor may not set the price that a unit transacts for. They can suggest a retail price and thay can set a minimum ADVERTISED price but not the actual selling price. May be different in Canada and elsewhere.

Actually they can do whatever they want. Whether they can get away with it is up to the willingness of the AHJ's to intervene. Often in cases like this someone has to first file a complainant before any "attention" will be paid to it. So, any Danley dealers out there wanna shoot themselves in the foot by getting in Danley's face about selling below MAP, getting dropped as a dealer, and then filing a complaint? My understanding is a crime hasn't happened until they actually drop you - just telling you that you will be dropped isn't. Assuming you can get the AHJ's to go after them and win you can then rustle up a bunch of money to sue and might even break even in a decade or two (probably not). IMO ain't worth it .

I think it's the same here in Canada too, Andy.

In theory, I understand the policy against price-setting/fixing, as it potentially impedes business, however, in the real world, I've heard of several instances now, where a small dealer has undersold a large competitor, and he's been called by the manufacturer, and told he must "up his price" to more closely match that of the larger dealer, or risk losing the line alltogether. This pisses me off entirely btw.

Case in point; a very small local dealer, sells a certain model keyboard for roughly $2400. His much larger competitor, sells the same keyboard for $3000. and is doing a huge volume. A lost customer tells the larger dealer what he paid at the small dealer, and the large dealer calls the manufacturer about being undercut. The manufacturer/distributor then calls the small dealer to inform him he must raise the selling price, or simply lose the line. The small dealer, had been entirely happy with the $2400 price-point, but now has to sell at the higher price. His only alternative it seems, was to sell a value-added product.(throw in free shipping/installation/free accessories, etc.) Stories like this make my blood noil, but unfortunately, it's not a rarity.
