I paid $70 for the OU2 from MF and that was with coupon codes and all. IF I can get $50 out of everything then I'll be happy. It just sits there, unplayed and I need tuners so I think a set of the SWR's and $25 bucks would be fine by me. I'll go to the shop tomorrow morning and talk with em'. Main thing is to get the tuners and all the high E strings I've used up. I've got about 4 or 5 sets of strings with the high E missing,LOL.

I voted that you just get a new tuner and keep the RK.

FWIW, I don't think you'd really be able to "trade up" with a $350 guitar. If you bought it for $350 new, you might be able to get $250 for it if you sell it. If you're able to get $50 for your uke, you'll end up buying a $300 guitar to upgrade from you $350 guitar. Sounds like some fuzzy math to me .

If you want a nicer guitar, save your pennies and go out and buy one in a couple of months. Maybe you can get some money (or a guitar) for Christmas. It sounds like your RK would make a good beater, if nothing else.

Come on, Frank, we know you're really rich but just pinching pennies. Go out and buy a Martin HD45 and be done with it! It'd probably be cheaper for you in the long run.

I actually paid $250 for the RK + I"ve got $75 into the hard case so that's where I figure I'd get $250 to $275 out of it on a good day. I know, normally you'll get about half of what ya' have into something back out of it, that's why I'm keeping the RK and just getting new tuners.

This is like replacing your car because it has a flat tire.

How did a burr inside the tuner break all those strings

It didn't break em', it threw em' off of the post. When it hits the burr the post jumps and the string comes off of the post and since it's already been trimmed you can put it back on the post so you have to use a new string.

If you had some idea of a repeat performance, why didn't you coil the string or change your tie off technique instead of trimming tight to the capstan?

And, you have a problem with this? It has to be something about the car (or wheel) causing the flat. Seriously, sometimes it doesn't take but a couple episodes to sour a person on something; especially when their current choice was a throw of the dart amidst many possible choices. Frank is just honest and open about it. That's all.

I sold my first car, a '66 Mustang, because I ran out of gas twice with it. I got into a '63 VW Baja Bug and NEVER ran out of gas in that car. Sometimes you just get a bad taste in your mouth from something that didn't work right.
Yes, I can get a $30 set of tuners for the RK and probably live happily with it OR I can simply trade/sell it and the Uke and upgrade to a better guitar. I'm not commited either way, just have to feel things out and see where I'm lead.

I would just fix the tuner. If you want something higher end, I'd save your money and, down the line, get something significantly better than what you have. Rather than buying more expensive guitars, I am in the process of upgrading the cheaper ones that I have, and I am content with that.

Cheers,

Glenn

I bought a new Pontiac Aster - equivalent to Chevy's Vega - 3-door hatchback in 1976 called the Safari. It was my first new car and making a whole $4,500.00/year in the Air Force it was all I could afford. I liked it a lot but it had this peculiar habit of shutting down while highway driving. A couple minutes on the roadside and it would start up and run as if nothing happened. I tried everything. Ignition coil breaking down? Replaced it. Nope. Fuel starvation? Replaced all filters, checked the tank vent system and replaced the fuel cap. Nope. Electric fuel pump breaking down? Replaced it. Nope. Vapor locking due to improperly routed fuel supply lines? Re-routed them away from any heat source. Nope. Carburetor flooding out? Rebuilt it. Nope. Emissions system problem? Removed air pump and reconfigured car to non-emission-equipped model. Nope. Faulty ignition switch? Checked it. Nope. Main fuse cold terminals? Replaced fuse, cleaned and applied conductive grease to terminals. Nope. Loose electrical ground/faulty harness? Buzzed it out while tugging and bending. Nope. Excessive exhaust back-pressure? By-passed the catalytics. Nope. Dirty windshield? Yep. Replaced the car. It was 2 years old.

Well, that was a bit more dangerous than a bad tuning peg...

I agree with what Glenn F said: "just fix the tuner. If you want something higher end, I'd save your money and, down the line, get something significantly better than what you have."

Man, there's a time for practicality and then there's a time for sport. The trouble is recognizing when to implement one or the other.

Not really GAS, just thinking about upgrading a bit since it's be quite a while since I've bought anything. Can't a man want a nicer guitar then the one he has just "because" with out any GAS involved,LOL. I'm just thinking that something new and a little different might get me into playing a bit more then I have been lately.
The tuner is fixed on the RK, got one out of the take off bin for free that fit perfectly. That's not an issue anymore. Anyway, either way I go I'll keep ya'll posted. Talk to ya'll later.
