Whoever said he can't play?

For anyone who ever thought that... check these out:

Who would you rather listen to?

EC has never been the "showman" and never claimed to be. Awkward and insecure, he'd rather sit towards the back and do his thing. Read his biography. He's pretty open about this and other musicians have had to push him out front.

EC has been my favorite guitarist since I first heard Beano in 1967. I've seen him 7 times (twice with Cream, 4 solo, and one the MSG concerts with Winwood) and have never been disappointed. I've noticed that the in thing lately is to "hate" Clapton and the Beatles. Kind of like hating the Yankees for being excellent.

I see a lot of guys here throwing around the same old pentatonic line everytime a Blues player is mentioned or discussed. Sorry but I don't see it that way. Chomp on this Blues player (RIP) and tell me what you think please. Be patient and listen to both parts.

The Beatles thing has been brewing for a while. And I don't think it's hatred, it's exasperation. Nobody thinks that they were shitty musicians, or that they weren't innovative, but to quote somebody that I can't quite name just now "Yeah, a great band. And I really liked most of their songs the first eight or nine hundred thousand times I heard 'em. But it's getting a bit stale lately."

In both cases it may be overexposure, or the old 'familiarity breeds contempt' kind of thing, but I can easily understand somebody being repelled by yet another round of praise for something that's been essentially the same for the last 20+ years.

Or maybe the fact that their music is being used to sell cellphones now...

All you need is love. Well that and a Blackberry Curve!

True.

He's introduced on Five Live Yardbirds as "Eric 'Slowhand' Clapton." Slow ... hand ... clap ... ton ...

Thanks for that vid, EJD (the 1st one!)... that brightened my day.

I've always been an EC fan, and always will be. I hope I can put half of what he does into a show when I'm 64. Hey! That could be a song. Beatles references everywhere...

If you actually beleive that, check out Muddy Waters in the film "The Last Waltz". Muddy delivered all the time, every time.

I think that EC's problem is, that now that hes a near billionaire, he dosnt need anything from music or anyone else and has forgotton how to strive for anything.

He'd do better to simply have more custom, big buck, hot rods built and lay around his house in France watching TV reruns of Perry Como.

I used to love EC but sadly, hes made himself irrevelent.
