Low end hazer questions
So it seems the Starlight hazer appears to be the least expensive and is the same as the ADJ model. Can any confirm if this is a decent hazer for small clubs? What about the noise level?
Next I see there's the MBT hz300. Anyone using this model? How's the performance and noise level on it? Sorry to be blunt but Im typing on my stupid phone. ![]() |

Irradiant has two new inexpensive hazers arriving this week.
The Z-150 - 450w with a MAP of $ 149.00 and the Z- 300 - 700w with a MAP of $ 229.00

Thanks Bill. But am I wrong in assuming those are foggers (although the Z300 states it can use either haze or fog juice)? I'm trying to avoid the tradtional fog and go for the finer mist of a hazer.

The manual for the Z-300 states:
"The Z-300 Fogger machine operates on regular fog liquid The machine has been designed to produce exceptional haze using Z-300 fog liquids. Use only our high quality fog liquids or other dealer recommended fog fluids." Although the product page does state "Use with Haze or Fog Juice !" Also there are 2 different pages. One for Foggers and one for hazers. The hazer page only has 2 products mentioned above. and the fogger page has 10 products. From the literature it appears that these are foggers that produce a haze and not a true hazer. |

Both machines appear to be "fazers", or foggers with a fan to dissipate the fog and make more of a haze effect. It won't last as long, and certainly will smell worse.
The Star Light and Magic hazer looks to be the same as the ADJ haze generator, and I've always assumed that they're the same.

Yep. I'm very happy with the MBT HZ-300 (an actual hazer rather than a "fazer"). The remote comes included, it's DMX, and it is higher output than MBT's previous generation of hazers. The noise leve is negligible, I can't see using more than a gallon or two of fluid a year with normal weekend warrior stuff, and it has held up to real prolonged use.
Haven't owned the others, but the HZ-300 gets my approval and the people who've rented it were happy, as well.

I figured since it's actually a Neo-Neon product with Irradinat's label, that's pimping their products for them. Reason they don't have a lot of info. on their manual. Was to save on translation cost which they pass the savings on to you. I'm just assuming that part. It's a good unit for the price for small clubs only, and Bill you can get the Z-300 for $100 at a Chicgo based internet store here's the link http://www.madmanaudio.com/irradiant...00-p-1999.html

Thanks for all the feedback. The irradiant at $100 would be interesting to see what it does in "hazer" mode. can't beat that price. But I think I'll ultimately get the mbt hz300. Clubs/ bars around here are getting really strict on not allowing the use use of traditional foggers.

). A unit like the DF50 (don't look at the price!) or other oil based foggers will fog the pants out of a large venue in 10 mins or so. The duration of the fog is very good. Many 'Haze' machines use a version of fog fluid which has a lengthy haze time but isn't the same in operation of experience as a proper hazer like the DF50 which used cracked oil fluid and a high pressure compressor. Not trying to sway your decision to buy at all. I'm just throwing a bit of knowledge in to the Hazer/Smoke-Fog machine thang..

Everyone knows that a $2695 hazer is the solution if you don't want to be an amateur hack band.

The ADJ Haze Generator/Star Light and Magic Hazer/MBT HZ100/Antari HZ100 uses the same kind of idea as the DF-50. An air compressor produces haze by pushing fluid through a nozzle. This is fundamentally different from any "fazer" out there. There are some heat-based haze machines that are good, like the Martin Magnum 2500 HZ or the Le Maitre Radiance.
The only downside of compressor-based hazers is the noise. These machines are on the whole a fair bit louder than their heater-based counterparts. However, you'll be rockin out on stage, and stage volume will easily cover most (if not all) hazer compressors.

Is that in reference to something I said?

More expensive hazers will produce a more transparent mist (with smaller particle size) which hangs in the air for much longer, and doesn't smell. But many of us can't justify buying one of those babies. On the fire alarm issue - ALL fog machines and hazers (cheap or expensive) are capable of setting off modern fire alarms. If that's the main issue here, then a cheap hazer really isn't going to help you much.

The Radiance is truely hard to beat and is probably the best bang for the buck considering price vs. performance.
Buy once, cry once.

To put and end to this thread I went ahead and ordered the MBT(Antari) HZ300 for a pretty good price.
After I get the rest of my lights in I'll need to do a video review. |

So, what are your impressions of the HZ-300?
