Thanks for the warning -- (mental note: Never buy a RK guitar).
I'd just replace the bad tuner, and chalk it up to live-and-learn (and never buy another RK guitar ).

Save 100 bucks a month and upgrade when you can get the guitar you really want. I bet if you had all the money from your previous purchases you could get a really sweet upgrade. Start that fund, and get it when you can.

This is the very low end guitar that they sell, I"m sure if it was a slightly higher end RK there would have been Zero issues. I'm sure with a good set of tuners this guitar will serve me for many years.

My Epi had a bad low-E tuner when I got it. Just traded the tuner back to the store where I got it. I do a lot of business there, so no squalk. Glad they had one that matched. Seems you could just find one that'd do until the dealer came through. Then again, a set of gold Grovers for $30 sounds like a real good deal. Besides, it'd be a shame to break up a matched set of RK's.

LOL, I sold the dreadnought a few months ago. Never played it and needed the cash so it went "buy buy". I may just sell the Uke AND the RK, get my wife's rear main seal fixed in her mini-van(that'll cost about $350) and then first of the year pick up something else like the FS Yamaha or a Mini-Jumbo Seagull. It doesn't really matter, not playing much these days anyway.

Like I said before. I called RK, they said I'd have to take it back to where I bought it for service. The place I got it would have to be an authorized RK dealer(not sure if he is) and I'd need my sales reciept(don't know where it's at.) so nothing is getting done under warrenty, kind of sucks, doesn't it.
I may just take the guitar back to where I got it to see if he'll personally do anything for me but I'm not going to hold my breath. I did find these at MF: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...ide?sku=360162 they look just like the tuners that are on the guitar now(except mine are chrome not gold, I want gold though) so I could just sell the Uke and buy a set of these and they'd fit perfectly.

The link in my sig has three replacement tuners that might work for you. (Recording King makes Silver Creeks.)
Chances are that you'll have to ream the holes in your peghead a bit for any tuners -- I don't think there are any drop-in replacements available after market.

With an Epi and Parkwood I have, I once needed a saddle and some bridge pins to replace some defective ones. I sent them an email and had the replacement parts in my mailbox a couple of days later. No questions asked.

).I value customer support as much as all the other aspects of a guitar. On that front, my Alvarez MD350 is better than my Yamahas. Yamaha support is "fine"... Alvarez support is stellar. My experience and $.02...

I will agree with ya' that customer support sucks. If/when I get rid of the RK you can bet I'll go Yamaha or some other brand that'll stand behind it's products.

Well, since it IS a good guitar, and you like it, you should definitely just get a new tuner for it, and continue enjoying it!

Pulled the offending tuner off and took it apart(yes, you can take a "sealed" tuner apart.) looked into it and the brass gear is all buggered up.
The Gotoh 3 On Side Tuners are identical to the one I took off. Screw tap is at the same angle and everything. Just need to come up with the funds to get em' or at least find a single to replace this one. This really leaves a bad feeling in my heart about RK. Guess I'll get the guitar fixed and try to sell it even though I really hate too.

Yep, I think I"m going to pick up the SWR tuners and some strings(lots of high E's,LOL) and call it a day. I don't have the cash to get into something else right now, I"ll tweak the action a bit when I change out the tuners and the RK should be more then good enough for me to beat on for another few years.

Keep the OU2, you won't get much for it anyway. Brand new, they sell as low as $45 and it's not a bad uke, as low-end laminates go. The action is typically very good on them. As for the Recording King, not long ago you spent a great bit of time deciding on that guitar. Maybe you can contemplate it a little more before taking the leap. What was it that compelled you to buy it in the first place... Think on what you liked about it. If the tuner replacement will satisfy the need, then that is not a bad idea.
