View Full Version : Your chance to influence a manufacturer's decision - Funk Logic poll!

Okay folks, I was just discussing the subject of whether or not the new FMR RNLA will fit into existing Funk Logic enclosures with Derek at Funk Logic. As I suspected, Derek says they'll fit just fine, since the layout, controls, meters and switches are identical between the RNLA and RNC. The only difference being, as I noted in another thread, is that the labeling on the attack and release controls is somewhat different between the RNC and RNLA... but that won't affect how they fit into the rack cases, and shouldn't pose too much of a issue in terms of using the products.
However, Derek was curious about what his customers would be most interested in, and so I offered to post a poll to get your feedback.
Thanks for taking the time to vote. :)

I voted for the RNP/RNLA combo, but I'd also like them to offer matching knobs. :)

What's the matter 0-9, you don't like red? ;)
Personally, I think they look rather cool.

I'd like to see them release ANYTHING that has both balanced inputs and outputs that have either +4 or switchable +4/-10 i/o.

I voted for Dual RNLAs
I already have an RNC and I plan on getting an RNP or two (I still have two more spaces available in my custom 19" rack plate.)

I'll pass that along to Mark, but this poll is about which rack enclosure you'd like to see Funk Logic release next for FMR products. ;)

Dual RNLA please :D

I voted for dual RNLA, but I also told Derek that I would prefer to use the VRT if they make an RNLA faceplate for it...

I'm leaning the same direction Rick... and hopefully Funk Logic will eventually release the 10 unit, 5 space rackmount vert that they mention on their website - that would be cool too. :)
Anyone else who is considering the vert type configuration, please feel free to comment in your replies - sorry I left that one off the poll list. :o

I voted dual RNLA too. I already have a RNC/RNP Funk Logic combo and I don't plan on picking up another RNP anytime soon. I could see myself using multiple RNLAs though...

personally, i think it'd be great if FMR would make a tiny EQ so we could have Funk Logic make a cheap, yet high end channel strip with RNP, RNEQ, RNC, maybe with a single button for RNLA. mercenary could sell them for 800 bucks and everyone would be happy.

That is totally badass. I'd buy that trio in a single space today.

Two problems - first of all, we don't even know if there's going to be an RNEQ yet. Secondly, a three unit per rack case would require a lot of reworking. Derek an I discussed that a bit yesterday, and maybe it would be possible to pull it off, but it would be a really tight squeeze and would require a rework of his current mounting system. You'd need something like a regular utility rack tray with a secondary faceplate... that means the mounting system would be "double thick" at the rack rails. I don't know if that's in the cards, and he might eventually reconsider that, but it would be a complete rework, and unless there was a LOT of interest in a three unit, single space product, I'm not sure if the extra costs involved would be worthwhile to him from a business standpoint. Remember, we're talking about a small company with limited resources here.

I don't use much compression on the way in.
I really want a two unit RNP Funk Logic unit.
I'd like to see three things:
a 2 unit RNP in a FunkLogic unit (please)
a 2 unit RNLA (or RNC) in a FunkLogic uit
a combo RNP and RNLA (or RNC) unit
Most of all, the two unit RNP.

what about a single rack with only one RNLA?
just want to use it with other micpre for vocal and acoustic guitar.
a questions, what do you guys use 2 RNCs or RNLAs for?

You could use them on individual instruments / vocals of course... :) I've been experimenting with chaining a RNC and a RNLA on the same source, and that can be really cool too. :)
As far as a "single unit" rackmount, there's no reason why you can't buy a two unit Funk Logic product and just mount a single unit into it. :) Because of that, I wouldn't hold my breath on a single unit, single rackspace product from Funk Logic, but you never know. ;)

I like the RNP / RNLA option. Usually, for my needs, I prefer to use compresion on a track after it's in the box, rather than during tracking. Although I can see the use the other combinations offer.
The channel strip idea would be great with a RNEQ. Imagine a dual channel strip with all of the FMR features for a reasonable price. I bet they would sell like hotcakes.
my $0.02.
