View Full Version : New gig calendar!

Hey guys,
Well I told ya I was working on a gig calendar for us, and it looks like we've got it going! I'll probably be able to make it fancier after the software upgrade happens, but meanwhile it's still cool!
Just click on the "Calendar" button at the top of the page, and you should be able to click "Public Event" and add your gigs! If you have trouble or can't add a gig, let me know.
If you go to August 12 on the calendar, you'll see that I put in a gig for my band. If we all follow the format that I used there, it will be easy to scan the calendar for gigs in your area. The subject of the calendar should be your band name and city, e.g. "What The...? - Atlanta, Georgia." If you click on the link in the calendar you can view the event and see the details I posted... you guys should be able to post similar links.
Once the calendar starts filling up, we can promote it in some of the other forums too! Enjoy.

Cleared the cache, still only going up to 2004. If you don't want me to list my shows just tell me! :D

Lee, this is the absolute BEST feature! It brings 'local' the members we wouldn't even know were local.
This is fast becoming my favorite group here at HC. You SO rule!
peace, and thanks again,

Glad you like it! And we should also thank Scott, the admin, for putting up with my incessant bugging him to implement it. :D
I hope in the future to expand on the concept even more, but we'll have to wait for some software upgrades and stuff. :)

Yes, it's on the little menu of buttons at the top of the page, next to "user cp," "register," etc.

"Fibber McGee" coming to Kansas City Area "Cheeseburger in Paradise" restaurant and drinking establishment...
I sent a demo to David Nace (local blues band heroes, the Nace Brothers Band) who does the booking for "Cheeseburger in Paradise" (a chain owned by Jimmy Buffett). Actually, the Nace Brothers have even backed up Jimmy Buffett (among other well-known bands). He dug our demo!!! There are two "Cheeseburgers" in the Kansas City area, one in Leawood KS and one out by the Kansas Speedway. We've got June 2nd and 3rd at the Leawood one and the 21st at the Speedway one!
I'm a happy camper!!!

Congrats, Tedster! Sounds like a fun place to play at.
Oh, I'm still alive and kicking here in Alexandria. I know I haven't been around here much and hopefully I'll get more involved again soon. I quit smoking (January 1) and started dieting (lost 20 pounds so far). The band, Loaded, is still kicking (just put our May gig in the calendar).
Hope things are well with everyone.

RIM!!!! How are ya, bro!!!???
Good to hear from ya, thought you'd dropped off the face of the earth!!!
Good to hear from you, too, Ted! Work has been so busy and I confess many of the times I spent here were during work. :o
Which is why I'm looking for a new job! My 3D world is messing with my virtual one!
Oh, and buying a house (and maintaining it) has kept me busy, too, but way worth it. I've got real drums in the basement now.
So, what have I missed? :D

Just the usual stuff...mini dramas, moves, all that sort of stuff. Don't hear much from the old D.C. crew, haven't heard from any of the people that made our dinner, Neil McGuitar, Jedi or his dad, Lurker, or anyone in a long time. You're the first returnee!!!
Really? I thought rog951 was still semi-active. Anyway, not sure I've actually returned yet. Just peeking in. :)

And events show up at the bottom of everybody's forum page too, even if they don't look at the calendar. :)

So how do we kill botched calendar posts? I tried to up my May 19th gig and completely failed to drop in our flier-- it's just a paragraph of code (pretty ugly and offers no show info).
I don't see a way to delete my screw up, though.

Terrapin Island, Friday, March 28, 9 p.m., Mole's Eye Cafe, 4 High St., Brattleboro, Vt.
Audio and video available at www.myspace.com/terrapinisland.
Organizers of the White Mt. Forest Jam, where we'll play this summer, described us like this: ""Dark Star Orchestra look out! This talented five piece from Vermont sound
like authentic Dead circa 1970s. Big emphasis on true to form sound, they
perform mostly Grateful covers w/ sweet multi part harmonies to boot. Come
shake it like Sugaree!"

My band, Terrapin Island, has a fun gig Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, in Peterborough, N.H.
It’s our second time playing at Harlow’s Pub, a really cool restaurant-club in downtown Peterborough, just off Route 101 at the corner of School and Grove streets. We start at 9:30.
From Terrapin Island, you’ll hear plenty of rockin’ Grateful Dead tunes with three-part harmony. We’ll also have our ultra-cool T-shirts on hand, plus the hot-off-the-press CD made from our summer solstice show at Adams Farm in Wilmington, Vt .
Audio and video of Terrapin Island is available at www.myspace.com/terrapinisland .

Saturday June 20th TOMORROW!
I don't usually promote the band this way, but it's a special show, for a very special charity.
Members of the band are friends with some people that run a very unique charity called Snow City Arts (http://www.snowcityarts.com/). These guys teach creative arts to hospitalized kids, everything from painting and drawing to music and film! They work in groups and one on one with children that can’t go to school due to illness, short or long term. I couldn’t imagine being cooped up in a hospital and not being able to have some kind of creative outlet, Snow City fills a huge gap in the type of stimulus available to these kids. Follow the link to the website and take a look at the great work they do.
We thought it would great if we could throw in with Snow City and do a benefit show to raise some funds. This is a deal that can’t be beat. You guys get to party at the Alley in Highwood (http://www.bowlhighwood.com/) again, we get to embarrass ourselves in front of you, and the charity gets a donation in any amount you choose. That is a WIN all around!

This is so cool, to have a calendar here! Thanks for setting it up! I only just now noticed it.
Glad I saw it now, because my new band, Spontaneous Thin Air Radio (S.T.A.R.) just did a live studio gig on Thursday, and it's still got a couple more rebroadcasts on local TV and streamed on the internet tonight and tomorrow on http://www.cctv54.org.

Does anyone actually look at that calendar and check out other bands' shows? Or are you all just posting gigs expecting people to come and see you?
