View Full Version : Wait... so what is the point of this forum...?

This forum is sort of an open mic...ideally geared toward any performance or recording related topic...but, off topic posts are welcome as well. Stuff that is potentially inflammatory, such as political or religious debates, should not be posted here, but rather on the SSS Political Forum.
Wait...didn't Craig post a sticky? Yeah, go up to the top post "Welcome to the SSS forum"...and read what Craig has to say.
But, this is a fun place.

From the above thread...this is a quote, answering your question.
Craig sez:
"If you're new to SSS, first of all, welcome to the community! "Craig Anderton's Sound, Studio, and Stage" first appeared in 1995 on AOL, and became part of Musicplayer.com in 2000 after spending some time being hosted by audio guru Lynn Fuston...and now it's joined the Harmony Central community. We have a really good crew of people here who can answer just about any question you might have, as well as provide everything from A to Z (specifically, Amusement to Zen-like wisdom).
There are only a few very simple protocols that you need to know.
1. Do not post specifically to promote your band, your services, or sell things. Giving things away is fine. Use common sense; members are merciless to someone who has one or two posts and starts a thread called "Here's a link to my band's new song, I'm the world's greatest guitarist, please give me some feedback." HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE: Feel free to include this sort of information in your signature. Also, we do give some veteran community members a little slack, so once you've been here for a while and you find out your band is opening for Green Day or something, feel free to share the good news
2. No "ad hominem" attacks. Debate ideas, not people...respect your differences, and avoid the mudslinging. In the immortal words of Bill and Ted, "Be excellent to each other."
3. No politics or religion, please. There is a separate forum, "The SSS Political Party" (also affectionately known as "the mosh pit") where you can rant away. Other than that, SSS is an open mic forum. We have lots of comments on popular culture, the music industry, and so on.
So what is SSS? I liken it to a virtual party, and I'm the host. You're all invited to come and have a great time. Each thread is like a group of people going off and having a discussion. Be courteous to your fellow partygoers...drink as much as you'd like (there's a virtual open bar), but please don't barf on the carpet or you'll be politely escorted to a virtual cab so you can go home and sober up.
Now enjoy! -- Craig Anderton

What is the point of ANY forum?
It's all just a bunch of ones and zeroes, and it's all meaningless. All we are is dust in the wind.

The Point of this forum is "Sound, Studio and Stage"
Unlike anything seen here before and not related to any such "in between stuff"
Is the SSS archive up at MP yet?
Might be a way to understand better.

Yup.
Also, why are these Super-Schustaffel forums not in thier own category? I mean.. Sound Stage + Studio isn't very general, is it?

<<i'm beginning to think that no one knows>>
I posted a thread about the difference between OJ and SSS.
OJ is bigger and brasher.
SSS is smaller and more focused.
OJ has a lot of nastiness among the cool stuff.
SSS is moderated and I tend to push the cool stuff.
OJ is totally open topic.
SSS is about Sound, Studio, and Stage...which is pretty broad...but open topics are a part of it.
But probably the main thing about SSS is it has a personality of its own, I'm just the custodian of the beast :) SSS is smart, silly, didactic, tolerant, friendly, impatient, and a whole lot more. Just go with it.

It's good, bro. Don't fly out just now, I'm having an affair with a famous semi-married pop singer and she's allergic to mental challenges.
