Well it isn't just SSS moving into new digs, so am I (hello New Mexico!). Right now I'm in Clovis with a U-Haul, and AT&T has said that I'll have phone service "Monday or Tuesday." WHADDYA MEAN, "Tuesday?"

Gotta get into that wi-fi stuff or something. I'll get here as soon as I can!! Meanwhile, I've started a few threads to get the ball rolling...not that you guys need it...:)

Hey Dan, where do you call home? North on I-75 about 45 miles from downtown Detroit, turn west on Grange Hall Road, and you're there.

Just outside Holly, MI.

EDIT: There are LOTS of HC folks in our area, and I've met a few of them.

We oughtta have a gathering before the summer's over!

That was some very freaky sounding thunder.

I have only heard that kind of thunder a couple of times in my life. I couldn't really tell if it was analog or digital though.

And the worst part is it got some of my muffins wet.:D

Port Huron, really?

I do a pretty regular gig in St. Clair. I was up there this weekend for the Port Huron to Mackinac race.

Move down here where I'm at and you'll hear hellacious thunder quite frequently. At least you do up where I'm located; don't know what it's like down in Tedsterville. ;) I live near an area that has a LOT of radio towers that tend to attract lighting; if that has anything to do with it at all. This is the only home that I've lived in where the thunder sounds like sonic booms. It took a while getting used to it and it will still make you jump when it happens.

Jotown
07-25-2005, 05:34 AM
We get a lot of thunder storms in Michigan, but this was a different kind of thunder, it had that long, low, electric, brittle sound. Like a big long cosmic belch.

It sounded pretty cool.

Tedster
07-25-2005, 05:42 AM
We could use some more thunder...at least some rain. Good grief...everything is drying up. The usual Kansas City summer drought.

Jotown, you play in St. Clair? The only places that used to be there in the old days were the St. Clair Inn (that place used to be a horrible drag to play...the golf shirt and "Please Release Me" crowd) or Burkhart's bar (that was the one on the corner just north of the drawbridge). That was a total cement floor redneck bar.

Ahhh...boat night. The best night in Port Huron. Haven't been up there in awhile for boat night. Were you gigging there? They've changed the names of all the clubs on the river, pretty much. But I've got a lot of gigging buddies in that town.

I'm not going to pretend to be able to answer this question for Craig, but as he may not be here for a while, here's a short summary.

Craig's been writing for magazines aimed at musicians for several decades. His "Electronic projects for musicians" book is one of the only ubiquitous books in our little niche industry (Along with Dan Erlewine's guitar repair books and the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement book in Pro Audio Circles.)

He is, perhaps, the first call for equipment reviews of keyboard, music software, and other MI retail products because of his reputation for really fleshing out the features, pluses and negatives of a product.

In addition, he's written or edited manuals for the gear manufacturers.

And, he's a darn good musician, too. ;)

I'm sure Craig can fill in any details of what he uses. The list has shrunk lately as he had a moving sale that had to be perused to be believed. ;)

After last year (being at ground zero for at least two hurricanes), I'd be worried that the hurricanes are going to follow me to NM if I was you Craig... I think they like you or something. ;)

Seriously, congrats on the new digs Craig - virtual and physical.

And Valky's right - now that you're closer, you'll have to come out for the annual west coast BBQ's. :D

Phil, why should Craig change now? He has been using dial up for years, Unless something changed while I was gone?

He was always a test ground for us for dial up users! <G>

Craig, I hear NM is great! I hope you get settled in fast.

Thanks for the coffee, muffins, and fruit. Yup, I got here late Monday, the place is a disaster, the movers broke just about everything EXCEPT for my studio...I had the presence of mind to schlep it myself in a U Haul. Probably the best decision I ever made :)

To answer misc. questions...

Yes, New Mexico -- Santa Fe and staying here for a least a while. Didn't come here to avoid the hurricanes, it's more like coming home I lived here for a while just before my daughter was born. It's a special place and a great cultural vibe. My house is backed up against the Sangre de Cristo mountains with a beautiful view of the sunset !!

Phil, I'm on temp dial up but broadband is forthcoming.

For anyone who wants an excruciatingly long and boring bio to find out all the stuff I've done over the years, surf on over to http://www.craiganderton.com. And yes, it IS true that I once played a bit part in an Italian detective movie, as well as played Carnegie Hall...

As to the gear I use, it's a whole bunch o' stuff that will become obvious as I post more. I'm a huge fan of Paul Reed Smith guitars, the Peavey DPM-3 keyboard, Panasonic DA7 mixer, Sonar, Reason, Creamware's SCOPE system, homemade computers, Windows XP and Mac OS X, hardware controllers...the list goes on.

Dude! What band were you in? I remember Toby Redd being one of the main draws at Lee's Garage...but there were others, AirTight (whose bassist, Dave Kiswiney, played with Nugent for a bit) as well as others. I played there in that building which was after the Garage closed...they turned it into an arcade. Are you sure it was the Garage that burned (can't remember)? Boardwalk did, as did the Reef (they had bands there for awhile). When the Reef burned it took all of some friends of mine's equipment with it. :(

I've played Viking Lanes a few times. They always were switching formats in those days...they'd get a couple rock bands that didn't draw, so they'd switch to country...by that time the rock fans heard the word and showed up, only to find a country band playing...so they'd leave...and on and on.

Craig, I envy you. I lived in Albuquerque for five years and spent many a weekend up in Santa Fe. You're correct, the cultural vibe there is excellent; got your 7,000-ft lungs back yet? ;)
My favorite restaurant there was La Casa Sena, hope they're still open (I still cherish a cookbook they published years ago). Since that's home for you, are you a fellow chile-head? Didn't know that about you!
The Sweetie and I are planning a ski trip next winter to Albuquerque/Sandia, Pajarito/Los Alamos, possibly Taos and the Santa Fe ski area, might try to hook up for a drink (if you're in town!).
You scared me a minute, from your first post I thought you were moving to Clovis! (although, with the base on the BRAC list, you probably coulda picked up a house... cheep!).
Enjoy the culture, the chile, the lightning storms (hope you've got some good arrestors for your studio  ) and the snow; really, I envy you a lot!

Wow it depends what year :)
In the early-mid 70's it was a band called Vancoot pretty much a straight ahead rock n roll band, mid - late 70's it was Morning Star Rock, Prog Rock, hell even some disco! early 80's Zooster, Rock n Roll.
There was also a place in the early 80's across the bridge in Sarnia called Spangles we used to play.

When Lee's burnt down a friend of mine's band was playing there they were called Moriah (sp?) they lost just about everything except the guitars they had with them at home.
Coming from the west side suburbs of Detroit it was a long ride but we played up that way quite often, back in the day.
