View Full Version : Welcome to SSS!
Anderton

If you're new to SSS, first of all, welcome to the community! "Craig Anderton's Sound, Studio, and Stage" first appeared in 1995 on AOL, and became part of Musicplayer.com in 2000 after spending some time being hosted by audio guru Lynn Fuston...and now it's joined the Harmony Central community. We have a really good crew of people here who can answer just about any question you might have, as well as provide everything from A to Z (specifically, Amusement to Zen-like wisdom).
There are only a few very simple protocols that you need to know.
1. Do not post specifically to promote your band, your services, or sell things. Giving things away is fine. Use common sense; members are merciless to someone who has one or two posts and starts a thread called "Here's a link to my band's new song, I'm the world's greatest guitarist, please give me some feedback." HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE: Feel free to include this sort of information in your signature. Also, we do give some veteran community members a little slack, so once you've been here for a while and you find out your band is opening for Green Day or something, feel free to share the good news
2. No "ad hominem" attacks. Debate ideas, not people...respect your differences, and avoid the mudslinging. In the immortal words of Bill and Ted, "Be excellent to each other."
3. No politics or religion, please. There is a separate forum, "The SSS Political Party" (also affectionately known as "the mosh pit") where you can rant away. Other than that, SSS is an open mic forum. We have lots of comments on popular culture, the music industry, and so on.
So what is SSS? I liken it to a virtual party, and I'm the host. You're all invited to come and have a great time. Each thread is like a group of people going off and having a discussion. Be courteous to your fellow partygoers...drink as much as you'd like (there's a virtual open bar), but please don't barf on the carpet or you'll be politely escorted to a virtual cab so you can go home and sober up.
Now enjoy! -- Craig Anderton

Well, you who are "new" to the SSS are about to meet a lot of veterans with far fewer posts than you... Unless you drop by the archives at Music Player's forums (former home of many, if not all of the new HC forum additions. You'll find many of us have, ..er, no life. ;)
Here's to many years of SSS at HC!

Wasn't the old forum on the GEnie dialup network called SSS? And it pre-dates AOL :D :D
Welcome aboard, Craig!

I vote that Craig Anderton is a veteran.
Postcount only means that you've posted here longer than he has posted here.
But he is infinitely wiser in the ways of The Force.

Hi Craig, nice to see you here. I'd just like to say that you are to blame for getting me into engineering when I built some circuits out of your books 25 years ago and made a bunch a PAiA kits. Thanks to you, my spare time is consumed designing audio gear, repairing my vintage synths, and making lots and lots of great music.
Not that it's a bad thing :D

Hi there -
So, are the new forums designed to replace existing forums here at HC, or are they intended to be additions to the forum list, and let the original "less-filtered" forums such as Open Jam and Recording remain?
Just curious...
There are a lot of very talented forum members that frequent the original forums, along with a ton of great information stored in the threads and stickies in the original forums, and it'll be interesting to see how things at the HC forums progress over the next few months.

Welcome to HC, Craig and gang. This looks to be an interesting addition to the forum line-up here, along with the others which just popped up.
If any of you folks need a change of pace occasionally, you're welcome to check out Cool Jam, not to be confused with Open Jam.
I followed a link to your old location, and liked the tone of the forum over there, so I think I'll be spending some time over here. And, of course, it's great to have someone of Craig's reputation on board.

I don't have inside knowledge, but according to Scott Lehman, there may be some less active forums which are replaced. That wouldn't be likely to include Recording, and would only include Open Jam if the standard was mental activity! (I keed, I keed!)
;)
There are a few forums which really don't get much activity. I haven't looked closely enough yet to see if any have disappeared.

They are not replacing existing forums, we're just adding new ones. The exceptions are that Dave Bryce has become the head honcho on the existing Keyboard forum, and Dendy Jarrett has taken over moderating the existing Drum forum.
Otherwise, it's strictly new additions, and we hope to get lots of cross pollination between all the forums, old and new!

Well thanks for the kind words. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself in the new digs, and also working on some new educational content for the site. Those of you who remember the early days of MusicPlayer.com can look forward to things I did like the "Step by Step Mastering" with audio examples, which was very popular. Nothing like rich media to get a point across!

Craig,
It's good to visit your new home -- nice digs! I'm an old friend from the SSS on AOL days (digital vs. analog fries), who hung out at Music Player (when he had the time), and now you'll see the Mayor of Marathon lurking here every now and again. Congrats on the new forum!
The good news is that I'm term-limited out of office next March, and I'll finally get a chance to work on recording some new music, and maybe hang out here more often, too. In the meantime, stop on down for some stone crabs (well, as soon as they get back in season -- October 15).
Congrats again on the new SSS!
By the way... check out my article on recording a live CD in the September issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine! I'm finally published!!! The Big Time!!! WOO HOO!
Ooops... sorry.

I am wondering if you could explain why I am unable to attach photos to posts in the attachment section. I use a mac. The attachment seems to show up after I have applied it on the posting page, but when I preview it doesn't appear. I convert it to jpeg in iPhoto before attaching. Please advise.

Craig,
Even when the pic is only 40 kb, it still won't show up on the post. It is listed as a .jpg, not .jpeg. Also, it's name does appear next to the choose file button after I have selected it, just no picture shows up. For instance, I added the attachment to this post and it isn't showing up here either. EDIT!!! Actually, it is showing up now. I guess I got it to work after all. In the words of Gilda Radner, "Never Mind!"

Welcome, Wheat and Bob...I remember that dinner in Nashville, I think I was working with Randy Kling at Disk Mastering...I learned a lot from him :) As I recall dinner was pretty good too.
Bob, as an AOL vet, you'll find things are a bit different here but at least it doesn't cost ya $3 an hour!!
