Yes, a sampler. Or second and worse option is using your Acid Pro to do cd ripping of a track, then cutting out the part of the song with the vocal you want and pasting it into your song. I am not sure how to get JUST the vocal part though and not all the other tracks that are playing in the background.

I tried taking a version of the song, and a non vocal version, and inverting the non vocal and mixing them, but the versions didnt match enough.

I use an Electrix EQ Killer. It is built for this exact purpose. It can isolate any frequency range and then kill it, boost it, or send it to an FX processor. Also it has two inputs. I use mine between my turntables and mixer to get an even better EQ. I can then send the whole signal or just a portion of it to my Kaoss Pad. So I can isolate out a trumpet or some vocals and just add effects to that frequency without cutting out the rest of the somg. It's a great tool for DJ use or studio use. Plus they're going for around $80 right now. Check it out man.

It's the Electrix EQ Killer. It's part of their Mods line of signal processors, filters, & effects. Here's a couple links with some more information. If you have a Guitar Center close I would recommend asking them if they can get you one. I got mine there for $79. Most places are selling them for $175 - $200. I hope this helps.

Do you guys think that the EQ killer would work for muting out voices in a song, in other words turning it into an instrumental? Thats what I'm trying to do, and the best way I have been able to so far is by using soundforge to cut the last few seconds of a song when theres no voice (usually) and then tediously try to find the right millisecond to correctly loop it together. If this EQ killer would solve that problem that would be tha shiznit.

What exactly are you trying to do with the instrumentals? It sounds like you are sampling the beats or something. You can find instrumentals of most songs out there on CD singles and on vinyl. But to answer your question, yes this will do it. Although you may want to find a software plugin that does the same thing since it sounds like your using a PC. Anyway give us some more info and we'll help you out.

Thanks for the reply. I figured I would use the EQ killer to get the instrumentals as most of the songs aren't released as singles (to the best of my knowledge anyways). As for what I am doing with them, I would like to use beats I am familiar with as a stepping stone until I can get to full-on production. You know cause I was always listening to stuff and thinking, man this song would be so much better if it just had a "...." here and a "...." there. Anyways, could you recommend a good plugin as an alternative to the killer? Thanks.

Oh...okay. Unfortunatley I don't use a PC for any of my work so I'm not able to help you there. I'll ask around though.

I've decided I only need one of my EQ Killer's. If anyone wants to buy the other one let me know before it goes up on ebay.
