yes, the government are a bunch of hypocrites to say that 'these drugs over here are okay, and these drugs over here are not', because drugs are drugs - period, however, comparing niccotine or caffeine to crack or heroin is a little silly.

The real problem is buried a little bit deeper than what you can find in cough syrup. (isn't it funny that your bottle of robitussin and the average tablet of ecstacy found on the street share an active ingredient?) We are fastly becoming a society that believes in 'better living through chemistry', so to speak. Just try to imagine how many children are being fed ritalin on a daily basis, or how many psychiatric patients are living on prozac. You break your arm and next thing you know you've got a whole fucking bottle of extra strength Vicatin. I can only wonder how many medical patients have enjoyed a morphine drip.

It's perfectly okay for someone to become dependant on prescription pain killers, but a CRIME to be in the posession of certain natural herbs. THAT, my friends, is the world we're living in.

My late mother, (god bless her soul) had bechet's disease, and multiple sclerosis, and as a result, was the not so proud owner of a VAST collection of prescription drugs. There was a time where she was taking up to 35 different pills in a day, because her doctors told her to.

For every illegal drug, there are at least 20 that are legal. For every 20 that are legal, there are at least 5 that aren't FDA approved.

We, as a society, are dependant on drugs. That's not to say that everyone's a dope fiend, but just think about how much money our world's pharmacutical industries make on sales to the general consumer. I would say that this is a bad thing, but that would be hypocritical of me, since I myself am addicted to niccotine, have a very high caffeine intake, smoke cannabis on a regular basis, and have tried various illegal drugs in my lifetime. (tried some several times.) What's important to point out is, I can do these things and still be a productive member of society. I can still work, pay rent, pay taxes, suck up to the man, and just be another rat in the race.

DRUGS ARE BAD, period, there's no discussing that. Sure, there are varying degrees of bad, IE, Caffeine stunting your growth isn't AS bad as cigarettes blackening your lungs, but it's still bad. The simple fact of the matter is, drugs eat away at various parts of our bodies, and usually do damage that we don't find out about until MUCH later in our lives. Unfortunately, DRUGS ARE FUN, and therein lies the problem. It is my opinion that while we can't seperate between good and bad drugs, as we've already decided that all drugs are bad, there are still good and bad ways to approach using them. When drugs become a problem is when they run our lives.

Recreational use is one thing, you're certainly not a bad person for smoking a bowl with your friends once in a while, or for eating that pill and cuddling with your sweethart in front of a fire. You have a problem when you're smoking that bowl with or without your friends multiple times on a daily basis, or when you go through a case of beer in a week (or less), or when you have to eat at least 3 pills to get off, simply because you roll so often 1 or 2 just don't cut it any more. (and if that's you, good luck when and if you reach the age of 60....)

We are a world of smokers, alcoholics, pill poppers, and some of us (not myself, for the record) are even needle pushers. It's a safe bet to assume that 70-85% of the human race use one drug or another. EVERYBODY has a vice, that's just part of being human.

As far as our government is concerned, they should have realized a long time ago that people are going to continue doing what they want to do, legal and illegal alike. I say if some dumb bastard overdoses on cocaine, fuck him, it's his mistake. He knew what he was doing.

Saying 'YOU CAN'T SMOKE CRACK BECAUSE IT'S ILLEGAL' isn't going to solve anything. What we need to do is educate the masses, from an early age, with a complete and total lack of opinion, and focus strictly on the facts. In all seriousness, if you tell a child "don't touch the stove" they're going to touch the stove. However, if you say to the child "the stove is HOT. if you touch the stove it's going to BURN YOU and it's going to HURT, and you'll have noone to blame but yourself." they'll be less likely to touch it. They'll at least THINK about it before they do it. My only hope here is that the drug users of this forum THINK before they take any drugs, and are fully aware of what drugs they are taking, and what those drugs will do to their minds and bodies when they take them.

The drug users I have a problem with are the ones that not only endanger themselves, but also endanger other innocent people. Drunk drivers, mom's who smoke during pregnancy, stupid raver kids (and not all raver kids are stupid) who are too fucked up to walk straight yet still get in the car and drive home, etc.

I think the saddest thing of all is, every single one of the synthetic drugs on our planet were designed by US. It's like "hey bob, guess what? I just created a substance that, in doses of 200mg will make you feel euphoric, but in doses of 250mg will kill you. oh, and it also turns your hair purple, and you might experience lower sex drive and yourarmsaregoingtofalloff.... wanna try it?" And on that note, I've rambled enough.

i don't think it's solely about money because the government would make far more money off drugs being legal and taxed and society would be much better off for it because they could then use that ridiculous ammount of tax money to build better public rehabilitation facilities and created socialized health care, and it's not a matter of illegal drugs being worse for you as alchohol is worse for you than crack (this is true, research it) and is the most widely abused drug on the planet. the only thing i can think of why they are illegal yet others are not is that alchohol is part of a tradition in european cultures, whereas other drugs are not as much so, the war on drugs is clearly favoring drugs i.e. even though they're illegal people are clearly going to do them no matter what thus persisting on keeping them illegal is only fanning the flames of the problem (empowering organized crime, fueling violent crimes and murder, flooding the streets with even less safe drugs since there are no legal guidelines to follow ala the fda, and hurting addict instead of helping them by treating drug addiction as a crime instead of the health problem that it is). personally i think drugs are a waste of ones life, having done them myself for years and having been immersed in drug culture and seen where it gets people ultimately (all my old friends are either dead, in jail, fucking up their lives, or they got sober and are actually doing something with their lives now) i see nothing positive about drugs at all. they're instant gratification only. yet i am still %100 for legalization of all drugs, heavy taxation on them, using that money for more social programs like rehabs, to actually do something constructive about the problem, instead of this political "war on drugs" which doesn't get anybody anywhere.

Wow! Look what I started, A big Discussion on drugs. I am against drugs that are illegal, Now the drugs that people take to get better cuz they are sick or have a diaease, i AM all about those, it would be horriable if we didn't have some of the medicine that we have. I do drink, but not every day or every weekend, I'm not addicated. I quit smoking. My bestfriend is in N.A. and I support her 100%. I don't understand why kids these days do drugs like weed, its a waste of money, and then if another one of their friends is doing something else they have to try it and then who knows what happens after that. I want to live my life to the fullest and I wanna be heathly and happy, I don't need drugs to make me happy. I think they are dumb. and there is a big differnace between weed and cough syrup. I have so much to say but I can't even put it in words. Sorry.

thc, the active ingredient in pot, is legal and has been for years for medicinal purposes, people do not need to have medicinal pot, there is no logical reason for it, smoking things is bad for you, swallowing a pill is fine for you.
