Next time you play a show, tell that to whoever's running lights for your band. :p

seems he really doesn't know squat about lighting... it's another whole world,, just like the PA sound gear and musician part of music...

The next gig you do, get the lighting tech to turn on all the house lights and then dump the lighting for the stage... Should be a good show... :(

I actually DO get excited about lighting. It can be as complex as a sophisticated sound system, or as easy as hitting some switches. The guys in my band think I'm a little off because I try to match cool colors and warm colors with the colors of their guitars and skin tones, to bring out the best visual effect possible. Let's face it, when you're playing live, the visual is at least half the show. You can go out and do a sucky performance but look good, and people will still say you're great.
I've always liked washing a stage in blue or red, and having a single white light shine down like it's from heaven on the vocalist. It creates a powerful mood in the room, that just hearing the music might not. Plus, a good light show just makes you look more professional, and not like a wannabe.
Just my .02 cents...

Sound can't give you epilepsy. Case closed. =)

I don't know about the epilepsy thing. I been awakened by bad Journey songs way too early in the AM, and by noon I'm near seizures from having a heinous song stuck in my head all day . . .;)
