Q What exactly are vacuum tubes and what do they do?

A Well, vacuum tubes are little glass jars plugged into your amp and they suck in music from your guitar, and then pump it out to your guitar amp speakers. ....so you could say they are like a musical vacuum pump.

Q Why do people still use vaccum tubes in this modern day and age?

A Well, some people are too slow to realize that transistors have replaced all the tubes. Transistors are so very modern and ultra fab!!!
Other people are too CHEAP to buy anything new and exciting, so they just hold on to all their old amps and stuff as long as they can until they finally croak. Whoever finds their dead, shiveled up body will probably have to pry their greasy fingernails out of the dried up tolex and ripped grill cloth. :(

Vacuum tubes come in all shapes and sizes and some even have pretty colors and/or writing on them. :) If you have an old amp with old vacuum tubes with just plain white writing, you should probably just throw that one away because an amp THAT old will eventually catch on fire and burn your house down. :(
You see, .....there were no safety standards back in the 60 and 70s, and nobody really knew what was happening back then..... thats why cars pumped lead exhaust into the air and kids ate lead paint chips.

If you send your fire hazzard amp to me plus $50 bucks, I will dispose of it properly. .....but since all this information may be new to you, this month I am running a special, send me your address and I will have someone pick that old junker amp up for FREE

One last thing. ..... Vacuum tubes are old technology and only backwards countrys like Russia and China use them, so if you have old vacuum tubes and want to KEEP your amp but just replace the tubes, you can probaby leave your job and family behind, hop in a boat and paddle on over to Russia to get new tubes. You better hope that the Russian tube people give you the right replacement tubes or else you will have to make another trip back....... :o

An alternative is to send me your old tubes. I will test them and replace them if they are bad. Just remember !!! ....Shiny BRAND NEW tubes will give your amp new life and sparkle !

Tune in next time to see what happens when an old vacuum tube explodes in your face and ripps your eyes out. :)

I used to use vacuum tubes until I got smart. Now I only use valve amps, which I get imported from England.

I am immediately copying this to post in the Amp forum and demanding a 'sticky'!!
Someone should warn those gearheads that they are promulgating potentially hazardous, antiquated technology!
Oh, the humanity!
Why wasn't something done sooner?
Why?
Why?

BTW I have this old black boxy looking thing in the closet...says Bogen PA on it...But I checked, and there is no Bogen in Pennsylvania!! Who are they trying to kid? I wasn't born under a cabbage leaf last week! And it has bunches of those glass bottle things sticking up out of it...it is very heavy...will you pay shipping?

Oh, and since you said that this was limited to product from the 60s and 70s, then vacuumed gear from the 20s through 50s is safe?

I also have an old vacuum with Hoover written on it...must have belonged to that President guy? Or is it just a signature model?

Actually the Military uses tube transmitter/recievers as back up because after an atomic blast the tube sets will be the only ones working. An atomic blast will blow all the transistors and diodes as I understand it.

And that's so good to know cause after that atomic blast the first thing we all wanna do is plug in and play our guitars...

I used to have an old bible printed by Guten-something, sounded kinda Jewish. I ended up tossing it out. Then i read somewhere that it might be rare or valuable. But i know mine wasn't worth anything. Some vandal by the name of Martin Luther scribbled notes all over it.
