Def. sweet man.....my old church used to have an old 80-something swingstar. Thats the stuff right there....none of the new swingstars are anywhere near the 80's ones. He sold them for pearl masters studio.....weird kid.

Thanks for the kind words. I've tried to sell these several times but I just can't. I want a new maple kit bit I'm not sure they would sound that much better, if any. I've had these drums for 17 years.

Hey guys I see a lot of you have the Starclassic Performer, I was thinking of this series for my next set. Would you buy them again and what else can you tell me about them. I like the Violet color
Oh and crushr24 you have to host your pictures at a web site first, like webshots (which is free) and after you do that type the link to you pic's

NAGI:

Yes....i would def. buy them again if they got stolen. I love the tone! First of all, it's TAMA. I like the starcast better than the optimount and all the others....

Next, it's birch!!! Perfect for the studio.....it's warm, but still cuts through....the kick it deep, and has a nice boom to it.

I wouldn't know about the snare becuz i use a pearl maple one. (I bought the 4 peice)

I highly recommend it!!

Thanks wally_groove
I was looking at the Pearl session srx and then I looked at the Perfomers and I though they where going to be more expensive than the pearl but there a bit cheaper in price for the shell pack to my surprise. I don't care much for the opti-mounts anyways.

Okay, I wasn't gonna post but I'll do it anyway. It's not my kit but I use it at practice (I have a Ludwig Rocker). Just your basic Rockstar, silver wrap (looks like stainless steel) with that standard 12,13,16,22 config.

Single Iron Cobra Powerglide
14" AAX Stage Hats
21" AAX Stage Ride
16" AAX Stage Crash
18" Med-thin Avedis crash

He's got batter CS dots on the 12 and 13 toms. Surprisingly enough they don't sound too bad. Pretty deep and warm tone. At 5 bucks a head it was worth it to check em out. On the 16 he's got a clear emporer and the snare a coated emporer. Stock heads on the resonant and kick (yuck!). Been trying to get him to replace the stock heads. It's pretty Frankensteinized but still sounds pretty damn good except for the kick.

Pretty dull, eh? Some of you other guys with the Starclassics make my mouth water...damn you all.

I have two Rockstar kits that I've put together to make a 9 piece. One is rather old, late 80s perhaps? and the other is about a year old. The newer bass drum is a little bit deeper than the other, but that adds kind of a cool effect

Hello!

I've been lurking on the forum for a couple of months now. The threads have a useful resource for deciding on the purchase of my new kit. Two days ago I ordered it.

Drums

18x22 bass
5.5x14 snare

Hardware
Iron Cobra Double Bass (Powerglide)
Iron Cobra Hi Hat (same)
Double tom stand (for the 14 and 16)
HT530 Throne
assorted stands and clamps for cymbals

Cymbals
13" HH Fusion Hi Hats
6" AAX Splash
8" AAX Splash
10" AAX Splash
12" HHX Splash
14" AAX Mini China
16" HHX Xtreme Crash
18" HHX Xtreme Crash
18" HHX Chinese
21" HH Raw Bell Dry Ride

I'm in my mid 30's. I started playing drums when I was 11, but stopped in my mid 20's. Have just had a drum pad and George Stone's 'Stick Control' to keep the frustrated drummer in check.

About 9 months ago I snapped! :) I had to get a kit and play again.

I walked into a music store and couldn't believe what I was seeing. The developments in drum technology over the last 10 years. WOW! The hardware. WOW! You young guys starting out now are sooooo lucky!

Anyway, back then I was playing Pearl but dreamed of playing TAMA; all the pros (I liked) seemed to be using them (of course they all play DW now). So I gravitated towards the TAMA sets immediately (although those DW's sure are nice!). Not suprised to see that TAMA still has the great rep for quality it had back then.

I've basically rebuilt the setup I used to have, minus one bass drum. I've gone for mid-range shells, but what I feel are the best in hardware and cymbals (you may not agree, that's OK). With good heads on them, I know these shells will have the 'voice' I am looking for.

It's going to be a long few months, but the light at the end of this tunnel is in sight. In the mean time I am taking lessons once a week to get those rudiments back, work out the cobwebs and get some time behind a kit.

BTW, thanks to everyone on this forum for sharing their opinions and experiences with different drums, hardware, cymbals, etc. Forums like this are a great resource.

This place just opened in January, so the drums are
fairly new, they had the stock heads on still and they
weren't too trashed yet:D

I couldn't tell how the kick really sounded, since they
had a big-ass pillow stuffed in there:mad: , but the
toms sounded superb and they had an assortment
of A.Zildjians with it also, they had the retail prices
of the cymbals written in magic marker on each of
them, probably to remind the drummers not to trash
them, or take any home as 'souvenirs' :D

I was disappointed when we first arrived because
the club manager told our agent over the phone that
the house kit was 'professional level', which led me
to believe that I'd be playing DWs, Pearl Masters,
Starclassics or similar level. Most club managers know
jack-shit about drums:D

But Rockstars are pretty damn good drums for their
class......but I still like my Exports a little better :p

Woody,

Yeah, I like splash cymbals. I like the cripser sound and rapid decay they offer. A nice burst of sound that doesn't overpower what ever else I'm playing. Just what they are supposed to do.

I like crash cymbals as well, but tend to use them sparingly (meaning I don't wail away on them). I'll probably add one more crash at some point.

I really like the sound of the HHX line. The AAX line is very nice too. Hell, I like most cymbals. They've all got something wonderful to offer.

See from another post that you're getting ready to buy some new cymbals too. Have fun picking them out! :D
