If one plans to give out a copy of their music to a DJ/producer at an event or by mail ....

is there anything specific that should be written on there? ["demo only"? "for non-commercial puposes"? etc.]

or does it not matter?

thanks for any help :)

Well, I don't think "Demo Only," or "For non comercial use only" would be very wise with your demo. Especially if you are giving them to DJ's. That would mean that you do not want the DJ to play the disk on the air. That would be the only reason I'd give a demo to a DJ.

I wouldn't do anything different for a Demo then I would for an album. Unless, you are including LIVE material on the DEMO. (Which is a great idea.) If you are including live songs, then DJ's probably wouldn't be too intrested. But, I would label it as a DEMO. I'd make sure it was up to album quality, from the packaging to the sound quality.

If you are going to include live recordings. Do it right. Get a DAT or a HD recorder hooked directly to the console via AUX. Also include a couple extra microphones to pick up the room noise. But make sure they aren't too high that they interfer with the recording mix. This requires some time spent in sound check, and some people that know what they are doing.
