Well the band is ready to start booking some gigs. We are a rock cover band(five piece). I mic'd everything open for the last practice and recorded some songs to use for a possible demo. I hooked up a tape deck to the RCA outs on my PowerMax16 and hit record. I know the mix is far from perfect ,my singer screws the lyrics up and the solo needs work, but what do you think? A few of the club owners that I spoke to said they prefer live demo's.
Here is one of the songs that we recorded.....check it out and please give me your thoughts

The sound quality is obviously a little rough. You can hear everything more or less.
My questions would be:
What's the competition like in your area?
What kind of places are looking to play, big rock clubs, bars, dives?
If your competition is top notch you're going to need something a lot better sound quality wise. If you're trying to get into the bigger clubs in your area you'll need something better.
If most of the bands in your area are not so hot and you're looking to play small local bars than what you have should be good enough.
Not to imply your band is lacking. You guys sound good to me for what you're playing.

Can you do anything about the vocals? Instrumentalism sounds dead on (I mean, it *is* a cover band, doesn't need to be revolutionary, just emulate the original well), but the singer ... heh. Okay. Maybe you should be shopping around for better vocals, too.

We have practice tomorrow night so we are going to try to record some other things. My singer is hoping to pick up some in-ear monitors. I know once he hears himself better he will be able to hit those notes better.
I have to make an open apology to my guitar partner...he hit that solo better then I would have....
Thanks for the input guys...It's cool to have an honest opinion, if you just play it for friends they don't always tell you the truth.

Hey Gasoline,
I'm going to pull the mp3 down from the site. Looks like you got some real good feedback. Let me know if there's anything more I can do.
Thanks!
