I spin house that has a special kind of feel, I don't know exactly how to describe it well, but I have noticed these characteristics.

1) The track will have a bassline, not just a boom-boom-boom repettitive bass drum (ie. peter heller)
2) It's got a warm, happy sound
3) The vocals probably won't have verses, maybe 3 or 4 hooks
4) It'll sound more disco-ish than techno-ish

Artists: Daft Punk, Groove Armada, Masters At Work, Armand Van Helden, Avant Garde, Alan Gordon, Buena Vista

Do people have suggestions of different artists that are along these lines, maybe some that aren't as well known?

There's a whole ton of music like this out there...
usually its prog house that is just the non-stop, boring
boom-boom-boom-boom. I would suggest go to primalrecords.com and click on the House releases. You can
listen to all the new releases and decide what you like. Some of my personal favorites are Layo and Bushwacka!, Get Fucked, Logic Box, Eddie Richards.... those guys are called 'tech house' though, not sure what you're looking for. I stay far away from top 40 house with full on diva vocals ..

yeah, It's mostly prog house that I don't like. I tend to like the stuff poorly described above, what sub - genre would that be?

It really is the track that matters most, and not the genre for me. If a top 40 house track is good, then I'll use it.

for starters, you must look into the samplitute series by Olav Basoski. It's up to around 11 or so now, so you've got some catching up to do, but I think it will be right up your alley, and it's some of the CLASSICS. Anything by Olav Basoski will be right up your alley. :)

Beyond that, I get fuzzy on artists, because this isn't REALLY my genre.. I just binge on about 10-15 records like this once a year or so, cause I do love it, just not nearly as much as I love my DnB..

My best advice is to go to www.planetxusa.com, and do a search for anything in their "House - Disco (hard)" section, or their "House - Disco (deep)" section, but for the sound I think you're describing, you'll probably just stick with hard as opposed to deep. (as planetx labels them anyway.)

I'm not necessarily saying to order from planetx, just that you'll find a WHOLE BUNCH of tunes by all sorts of different artists, and then you'll know who to look for. :) I can tell you from personal experience that planetx is fine to order from, I just think they're a LITTLE pricey. (however, it kinda balances out with shipping, as they don't charge much at all for that.)

here's to hoping that helps ya.

I was just looking on the Olav Basoski website and it sounds like the kind of stuff I'm looking for.

And if you look on his links page, Harmony Central is there! maybe he's reading this, or maybe its you?

definately not me. I'd be lucky to be blessed with a fraction of his production talent. Glad to hear you like his stuff though, we're on the right track.
