An inside source under an assumed name on the Unicornation board says DP will soon be on Windows. Any comments, opinions, rants? Link (http://www.unicornation.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=007135)

If true, good move.
It's not just having access to a larger market.
If I was a little co. like MOTU,I'd be worried when I see the maker of the platform I develop for get real serious about the same market you're in, buy the only serious native competitor to your product, and start bringing out stuff like Garageband and Soundtrack.
And I just heard from someone who is at emagic that they are under "intense" pressure ( internal Apple code for having Jobs breathing down your neck) to fix Logic's alleged shortcomings, including the GUI. Today's announcement of the streamlining of the Logic line, kinda like Final Cut Pro and Express now isnt it?, is merely one step on that road.
A DP for XP would be welcome in the pro audio community. MOTU is quite aware of how many of their current user base already have Windows to run Giga on, DP and Giga being both big in the film/TV composer market.
MOTU could increase their hardware sales to Windows users with the perception that DP/XP would work perfectly with their hardware. Hardware is their most profitable line these days.
And, since the general feeling is that Steinberg's products are, ummm, somehow lacking these days, the possibilties of grabbing some market share are quite good.
All just a rumor at this point, but the DP app is good enough to slug it out with Sonar, Cubase etc. The worry among DP users would be that MOTU doesnt have enough resources to support 2 platforms, seeing the time it's taken to get DP4 ready for prime time.
Arent rumors fun? What would the Internet do without them?

I agree with you completely. Especially about the PC competition...Logic's gone, Steinberg's been below par (from what I hear. I never liked Cubase and don't use it), and most people don't consider Sonar to be professional. I used Sonar before I switched to Mac, and I can definately see the superiority of DP over Sonar. I'm still getting the hang of using it and I had no luck whatsoever importing my OMF files (had to import each track individually  ), but overall I really like it. I also answered my own question about needing the ADC to VGA adapter to use my other monitor
