Any musician living out of USA cries daily about US prices, way lower with more options than anywhere else in the world.
Most of the time, even after paying shipping and taxes, you can get a very good deal.

I (and a few friends) have found that a telephone call will go far. The difficulty in payment is that automatic card verification systems can't check cards outside the US, therefore online orders will often not be permitted (unless checked manually and processed the next working day by a human being). Make a phone call, express that you want to pay by credit card and just say that you understand that it could take a few days until they know the money will be there for them.

And always check USPS shipping rates - they tend to be half that of UPS/Fedex and then just hand over to your national postal service which I find easier to deal with than a courier.

Except that I won't throw my card number in the nature at the other end of the world.
If something goes wrong it's almost impossible to get your money back.
I try to go as secure as possible with international deals.
Paypal or secured credit card, that's it.

Good point - I know my credit card has payment protection for any mail/online order. If I get screwed, I'm covered!

Lots of cards offer this and it's worth having for any online or mail order use.
