Check into a Mesaboogie 50/50 poweramp, used they can be found for around $450.
If not, then check into the Carvin T100s, Peavey 50/50, peavey 60/60.
Those are basicly the on Budget poweramps. They do sound good thought.
good luck,

hmmm, not so good. If you've got $500 to spend on a power amp AND cabinet, i think you might have to sacrifice a fair bit of quality.
No mesa boogie power amps for you young lad

You can get a Carvin 2x12 for around $200 new if you are near a Carvin store. They have things like last-years-model, and there's nothing wrong with them. That's how I got mine.
That'll leave $300 left to spend on a power amp.
I think a Mesa/Boogie 20/20 is more than anyone really needs, but if you have to have more juice, get a 50/50 or something like that.
Good luck.

*ahem* (sorry, just had to spam). Never had any problems, just downsized to the Mesa 20/20 (went from an 8u rack to a 4u due to housing, something had to go)

(Cough) cab in sig (cough) if you live (cough) anywhere near michigan (cough) ahem..... sorry cold season.
And what does hardcore suggestions mean?
But anyways if i were you I'd go with a Mesa 20/20 (used they're pretty cheap) and a cheaper cab. Cuz you can always upgrade, and SS poweramps are no fun.

Heh, classic :D
Seriously, I've seen some people suggesting the Mesa 20/20 but I can tell you honestly that they often go for just as much or even more than the 50/50
peavey 50/50 for the power amp
cab depends on if you want to run stereo or mono... but your best options are
mesa 1x12
no-name but quality 1x12 that can be had on ebay
avatar 1x12 or 2x12
those are just some options. don't discount the no-name cabs as there are some great ones out there that can be had for cheap, and you'll even have $ left over to get the exact speaker you want for the cab
