what r your bands like? what kinda music...vocals, guitar, drums, bass, altogether how do they sound?
my band is the symphony of destruction and we're a megadeth, old school metallica kinda band. thrashy stuff.
vocals-screaming stuff...sounds a bit like dave mustaine
drums-15 piece drumset, every piece used within 15 sec. and tons of double bass
guitar-fast, low pitched (but no down-tuned stuff), very thrash metal-ish
bass-faster! fills in pretty much all empty space w/ tremelo
what r u other bands like?

OK, I'll bite. Progressive metal and metal like Dream Theater, old Rush, old Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Priest. 5 piece, drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals. Very large drum kit, every piece used as well. Highly technical, skilled music, all tempos from ballads to very fast and everything in between. Odd time signatures and melodic vocals, with a singer who can actually sing in key and with melody.

We are a cross between Slayer, Slipknot, Pantera, Machine Head, and....Venom.
Bands along those lines...
Yet....we sound unique. Some songs are more "thrash" than others while a few kinda sound "newer metal" but the basic jist of the band is FAST AGGRESIVE music.
Its gotta be heavy. We will NEVER so a sell-out song.

While we aren't folk (though we do use a dulcimer), we have certainly been called ambient. Some of the songs that come out of us are very folkish, I suppose -but then others lean towards more aggressive genres. I really think Pop describes it best, be it metal, rap, grind, folk, thrash, rock, country...it's all pop music. -even My Dying Bride play pop music... Or better yet I think all musicians should band together and force reviewers/labels/radio stations to call it all 'MUSIC'. -we're all musicians and love what we do.

I'm in a post-industrial rock band, called Schmerzen. "We don't sound like anyone else." Just kidding! If you want to hear a track or two, go to: www.schmerzen.net
ministry/circle of dust/in flames
We are looking for a drummer in the Chicago area.
I'll probably need to break this down by member, cause our sound is pretty wack:
Drums - one of the rare breed of drummers equally capable in funk, jazz, metal, hip-hop, whatever...he uses trash cymbals, and is excruciatingly tight
Guitar - all over, equal parts Tom Morello, John Frusciante, and Buckethead, sounds completely comfortable funkin' some 9th chords or tearing through scales faster than Mack trucks through hippies on bycicles
Bass - think Les Claypool, Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, but less afraid to be creative
Vocals - imagine a vocalist with better hip-hop vocal chops than Eminem who is able to actually write decent lyrics completely void of profanity, but grew up on higher octane stuff like Angelo Moore from Fishbone, and also sings AND plays keyboards
That might help you to begin to understand this heavy-uber-funk music that we make in Green Theory.

Divided Sky. Usually described as Heavy Progressive Rock, but you can also call it just plain crazy. We aim for great songwriting, musical proficiency and a little bit of the unpredictable to make it pretty good stuff. From light to heavy, usually dark. Think accessible Dream Theater mixed with Cynic, Death and your Mother's favorite band.
MP3's on the site. Look. Listen. Crank.

You asked, here it is: Band is called Deep Under Dirt http://www.deepunderdirt.com We can directly name our influences as Metallica, Megadeth, Sabbath, Maiden, Alice in Chains, and Tool for the most part. Kind of a fast metal meets grunge. Guess we kinda have some of one or more of these bands influences show up in our original material. I don't say we really sound unique, everybody says that and they don't, but we do sound distinct - there is a difference.
Live mic in the middle of the rehearsal studio MP3 files on the site sound like shit, they were recorded months ago when we first got our drummer and bass player and they didn't know the songs very well. Take a listen if ya want. Demo is about done and new files will be loaded up in about a month.
Best thing to do in finding your own sound is just write and keep on writing, and what comes out is your sound. Don't worry if it sounds like someone else. If you are building a tribute band, you try to sound like someone, but if you have a band of folks with different influences, they will layer their sound under yours and it should become somewhat distinct. A Metallica riff with Sabbath drums and Rush style bass would be a cool combo for instance! Peace...
