Please feel free to post links to ANY of your work in this thread, including finished works, old songs, favorites, etc.

If you're looking for detailed feedback on a work in progress, please feel free to start a thread in the main forum.

You will also find a floating SHOWCASE thread (http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showpost.php?p=30397208&postcount=6) every month devoted to finished work, bragging about honors/awards, blatant self-promo, and gossip. It's pretty much our anything goes/safety valve thread for this generally ON TOPIC forum, which we try to keep free for discussions of songwriting and and critiques/feedback. :)

Please keep in mind that you'll be most likely to get responses to requests for feedback/critiquing if folks recognize you as someone who is willing to share his/her own insights with others on their songs. What goes around... comes around.

For more info, check the Rules/Resources sticky thread (http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=1944335).

and now back to Sjones' post, already in progress...

Hey...

Until Mr. Lehman gets to the "Post your Music" Forum, I thought I'd offer a place to do so, where we can share our music, without fear of being taken for spam, or worse, the thread disappearing and not being heard at all...

I'll make this a "sticky" for the top of the page...

Post away!

Peace,

Scott

Probably the best thing to do is to go through the various guitar pages in my website. See my sig... Some are just samples of tone variation and one you might recognize, one is an improv... It's a variety. All clips are at the bottom of each guitar page. The text explains the instrument and how the clips were recorded. Enjoy! Boggs

My "one take wonder" (http://webdev.loyola.edu/swatson/solo.mp3) that was inspired by a weenie measuring contest between John Ou and Carl over on the amps board.

Three minutes of blissful unstructured wanking over a backing track. Lots of trips, stumbles, and "which fret am I on?" moments. Something for everyone!

Thanks for listening. Everything was recorded on my computer and I programmed the drums and bass on the computer.

The guitar( Epi Les Paul with Duncan 59' PU's) was recorded direct through Toneworks AX1500G effects processor.

For the acoustic guitar and vocals I used a Shure SM57.

I just recorded a little jazz/blues improv thingie a while ago. From recording to uploading....it took all of 15 minutes(and it shows!)

http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Members/000068069_000001846.mp3

Well, let me know what you think. Its really short and the endings kinda screwed. But I'd still appreciate any comments.

BTW,you can hear some basic comping in the beginning(if you listen carefully).

I tried using just two notes for that......the third and the 7th.

Why not make your own?

Look for Anvil Studio. It'll let you compose MIDI files for free using a staff-type notation interface. And instead of a piano to enter notes, you can do it using a virtual fretboard.

Some of the features are extras that you can pay for in packages. I get around that by exporting MIDI files, then importing those into ACID.

Or, you could just register the program and get a full MIDI and audio studio.

Glad I could help.

Hey guys, I've been dying to get some opinions on some of my bands stuff. The first two songs aren't done yet, they're just concepts. First Kiss - Lovers' Waltz is a really beautiful piece. I can almost here some lyrics in the vien of "a long black viel" over it. I could see Hope Sandoval singing.

Hipster For A Day is interesting. I like it. I dig the beat with the chord progession and the repeated bent note. It compliments the vocal delivery. Is that you as well?

Love Is Chaos is really cool. It reminds me of a friends project from down here in texas. Once again, the beat you used is a nice contrast to the noises and the fuzzed guitar.

Interlude #1 is also very cool. I think it's my favorite. Yep, it's my favorite. I really like the theme that starts 10 seconds in and you keep going back to over what sounds like hand drums. The change at about 1:00 give it a nice groove. I think the song should be longer though. With something like that you have alot of possibilities.

What did you use for the drums?

Everything is done by me, so the spoken word in "Hipster For A Day" is also me. I used a heavy reverb and tape echo patch on my effects unit to get that vocal sound.

The drums were done using a program called "Tuareg" that I got from Brambos.com - I use the FAT version, which gives you 12 channels to choose from and the ability to use plugins and the like.

My next set of songs will probably be done using ACID, which I've just started using.

I listened to pretty much every song posted so far, and I have to say I really appreciate the variety in what everyone is doing. My favorites have been Benway, Map of Tulsa, Random Alias, and the Butterfly effect.

My stuff is all instrumental-I can't sing worth shit. Its folk-rock, with a lot of ambience in a few songs. I try not to make two songs sound the same.

I like the Butterfly Effect... :D This is a very good band with solid songwriters in it. I felt privileged to mix the song, which is posted at their website.

I also like Refugees, aka Cool_E's pseudonymous project. I'm working on one of his songs right now. I have never been a fan of praise music in general outside of a few artists but Cool_E has a nice touch with the praise song. I think he has a few more steps to go but the songwriting talent is there.

I also like a band called Full, which is at www.rememberfull.com. They have one of the wildest Flash sites. The music is very progressive but good. I just got their new promo CD in the mail. All I have to say is wow.

As a fan, I'm real excited about these artists. The web is a good thing for music as I'd never had known of them otherwise.

I have a few songs out on MP3.com. If I was going to recommend a couple, I'd say check out 'There Really Ain't Much Time' , 'Changes' or 'The Mac', maybe 'Blue Burke Boogie'. It's just me overdubbing guitars and sometimes vocals, no bass or drums. One of these years I'll get into a studio with a bass player and drummer to do a few of my songs...

I've just caught on to this thread, and I've listened to alot, but I'm having trouble remembering who made what music... sorry!

I mentioned these already, or not, but...

Mostly four-track stuff. Yucky recording quality. Off-key singing. Sloppy guitar work. I'm proud of the songs, though. Feel free to rip them a new one. :D

The intro to Showdown is really lame and goes on way too long. The drum pattern sounds like you're going to break into "In The Mood" and those beeping noises are lame. The rest of the song isn't bad, though it seems to repeat.

Actually, the other song also suffers from extended intro syndrome.

I'm actually working on some new material as we speak.

I've only had the chance to listen to one track so far here - the rosskoss
bit. It's got a really interesting "toothy" tone, like it's a tube amp with
a tube mic and a tube compressor on it - can't really describe it but it
gives an interesting texture to the tone.

looks like I was wrong. Rob, you're the only person I've gotten around to listening to but so far I've dug the hell out of it. Everyone else, be patient, I'm on dialup.

Here's my story, since this is my first post on an HC forum. I'm 21, I've been playing guitar for 5 months, and have no aspirations above trying my best to be a good songwriter. Anything you hear from me was recorded in my basement with Cool Edit Pro, a yamaha acoustic, and my voice.

I'm not looking for praise, because I'm an amateur, but criticism and/or suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated! Take care folks.

Cool, glad you enjoyed the tunes. Check back once in a while for updates.

I had a listen to your tracks. I think you're recording your vocals way too hot and they're ending up distorted before you can mix them down. Also, it sounds like you're recording your voice and playing at the same time, and your rhythm is really suffering as a result.

Josh, Great tunes!! Great vocals. Its not my favorite style but I really enjoyed them. My only comment is work the bass tone. The playing is great but I think you could find a tone that would compliment the song a little better......Steve

Sorry, let me explain. The bass sounds a bit muffeled or muted. The volume level is fine, what Im trying (not so well) to say is it needs a little more punch and a bottom end tone that carries the sparse sections along a little more. IMO it is just an EQ fix.

Cool stuff - what sequencing program do you use? Reminds me of Bela Bartok meets The Boards of Canada with a hint of Front 242.

p.s. I read Glamorama a while ago. Not as good as American Pyscho, although funny to see Bateman make a cameo in the book!

Hi,

Here (http://members.optushome.com.au/benro2/) are some songs that my brother and I did. Mels Song was composed by my sister in year 9 for a music assessment task. Someone heard it and offered to record it in a studio for free! I don't know why - don't think it's that good myself, but you'll have to check it out for yourselves, won't you!

Tell me which song you like the best and whether they would go best with a female or male singer (every song or just specific songs).

Thanks,

Ben

Tell me which song you like the best and whether they would go best with a female or male singer (every song or just specific songs).

Thanks,

i've only listened to the song by your sister. quite a gem for a 9 year old. does she still make music?

Hehe, my sister is in year 9, not 9 years old! She is actually 15. She only did this for the assessment task, but I suppose after all the good feedback from the other website she may be tempted to do some more.

Thanks!

Ben

Liner Notes:

"Nick Kepics is a composer and guitarist. He successfully merges his compositional and instrumental abilities into an equal context on his new release "Piece Offering." His compositions are thoughtful and each tells a very different musical story with lyrical beauty and logical continuity. His guitar work is tasty with a full, warm tone that compliments his writing. Nick's harmonic choices are expressive, consistent and each chord is clearly defined. "Piece Offering" is reflective of an artist who seeks to create the entire musical picture with smart balancing and sophisticated textures. The sidemen perfectly enhance his musical vision with style and good taste.

Trumpeter Blake Wallace's range, tone and intonation are superb throughout. Chris Brydge is the bassist. He has a nice rich tone and his sound resonates. He plays exactly what's needed from the bass to sustain a comfortable groove and solidify the chordal foundation. Drummer Leon Alexander never over plays the music and his skill in utilizing the full kit to blend from both a rhythmic and melodic perspective is both musical and interesting.

Nick Kepics has created a CD that should be enjoyed by many because of its engaging musical poems and outstanding musicianship. Swinging, memorable melodies with great supporting harmony and infectious rhythms makes this release intriguing to the serious jazz aficionado and accessible to the jazz newcomer. Congratulations Nick for a job well done!" Jae Sinnett Jazz Producer/Host WHRV-FM 89.5

I don't mind getting your honest opinions but please keep in mind that I was only 14 at the time.

Sparrow

By Jimmy Rose

Oh, dear sparrow your song spreads your cheer
How simple your life it seems
With wind 'neath your wings and a smile in your heart
No burdens toward you could one mean

All of your problems are but a leaf in the wind
Drifting away with the breeze
But if your troubles grow near you can spread your wings
And fly away as you please

Oh, dear sparrow I have a secret to tell
I can trust you, of that I am sure
You see there's this girl so pretty and sweet
Smitten by her I'm for sure

Her hair is so soft, her eyes are so dreamy
Her smile could light up the sky
The things that she says and the moves that she makes
So beautiful I think I could cry

Oh, dear sparrow please do not tell
This is just between you and me
Now spread your wings out wide and fly
Fly and be free

Thank you for listening
You're very sweet I must say
Til another day we meet
I bid you farewell and good day

Cheers,
Hard Rocker

I finally got around to listening to everything after my first post in this thread. My favorites since then have been, (forgive me for just using the file names as they appear on my computer) Nobody et al-Illusions, 000075162-......, Heatshield-Spellbound, and TWIL-Repeating the Dream. But I was very impressed with all of the ones I listened to, the ones I didn't list just weren't my style(or I couldn't get the link to work). That tends to happen when there are so many different styles represented here.

Now its time to plug the music of some of my friends:

John Young(from a few posts earlier) - his songs are really good, you should listen.

Hi,
I listened to some of the posts here and I really like some of them a lot. In fact, that's what I'm listening to right now.

Here are my band's songs:
http://www.angelfire.com/ok/leyoculta/canciones.html

They need to be played loud to sound good.

This is from when I was seriously trying to be a full time musician. I know they are not perfect, but I feel pretty damn good about the result. I really like listening to them (ok, I might be a bit biased).

Feel free to tear them apart, I can take critizism (I think). It would be great to know what you think about them.

Hope you like / enjoy 'em,

We just wanted to get a really raw rock sound, not too electronic and industrial.

First 2 seconds of listen and thought, Oh great, another band just bashing out chords and decided to turn their boom box recorder on.

Then, yeow, this is great music. The performance is dynamic, the sounds conjur up U2 and Alice & Chains. The recording has a great raw edge to it. Awesome vocals. Love the searing guitars (sounds like Marshall amp).

This is a really long post! If I post it, will it actually get listened to?

Here's my homegrown stuff, recorded on ProTools LE with a Godin LGX-SA and Roland VG-8EX.

"DrumBits" is a funky blues instrumental with Gibson 335/Vox amp type sounds.
"RockJam" has a harder edge to it. It's another instrumental with a strat/mesa-boogie combination.
"Free" is a song demo that I did in a friend's studio. He uses Logic. I only did the guitars and vocals on that one.

Enjoy....... or not!

I listened to "Free".....verses need better phrasing in places.....chorus needs back-up vocals....that "Freeeeeeeeeee" part needs an original back-up vocal arrangement, otherwise it's just another song with a "Freeeeeeeeeeee" chorus.

Vocals are very good....something about this tune reminded me of Pure Prairie League (in a good way).....Drum sound needs a litle punch.......A very good job overall.....You're pretty good for someone who can't yet ride a two-wheeler !

Not Bad. at least its different that the usual. But the rob guy is right...the music speaks for its self, no need for all that nutty ad speak....it detracts. But its sweet, minimal and moody. dig...

A cool mix of things. Obviosly a significant radio head, jeff buckley influence but you put your own stamp on it. There's some 80's stuff in there (PIL, Cure) and that cant hurt you these days. It's cool and pretty well produced, drums sound scrappy and rich.

LOL! I just got that! That was a good one! yeah, the song needs BG vocals on the chorus and more than a computer generated drum track. thanks for the comments.....
