I have an Audiophile 24/96 in an AMD K6-2 400mhz machine with 64megs of PC100, 3dfx Voodoo3 AGP. I'm using SM57's and a Behringer ECM8000 through a Behringer Eurorack MX602A. No matter what software I use (Cakewalk, Cool Edit Pro, Vegas,) I can record usually one track or so, but the second track will always kick in with crackling/distortion similar to a radio station that isn't coming in quite clearly. I thought the problem might have been the fact that my video card and sound card were on the same IRQ, but I fixed that problem and continue to get the crackle. I've tried various buffer sizes, but that only seems to fix the problem temporarily. Is it just my crappy machine? Hopefully so, because I'm upgrading soon. Any suggestions on what it might be? I appreciate it.

I just bought a 2408 by MOTU and have the same problem of crackling and loud pops. Usually buffer size if you mess around with it (augment it or decrease it; in cakewalk go to tools/audio/
advanced. This hasn't worked for me..... and I'm getting desperate about this. What was supposed to be an upgrade turned out to be a downer, at least for now.

If anybody has suggestions....
