Ive started to learn how to read notation. Im ok with reading the notes but I trouble determining what the rhythms are. Are there any books or anything that help with this?

for me, i've purchased several books by Bruce Arnold, and they've helped me alot. he does have a few books focused purely on rhythm, i think those would really help you alot. here's the book publisher's web site. the rhythm books are under the Books for Instrumentalists section.

hope that helps!

That is the main problem that everyone has cause the other part of reading, the actual pitches, that's relatively easy.

I've been greatly helped by using a notation program (in my case it was BAIB, but I guess any program will do) and write stuff from books, learning to play it by listening to the computer playing it back and doing.

This a lot has gotten me to the point where I can actually write simple melodies myself. So writing yourself, reading a lot, these arethe things that will eventually get you there.

You can get a special book for this but you can also use any song book with notation in it, learn the songs and learn how to read at the same time.

i have been using "Modern Method for Guitar" vol 1-3 by William Leavit. Its amazing.

I live near Boston so I went down to Berklee school of Music and this is what they hooked me up with. I've been at it for about a month and a half and I have learned more than over the past two years. This book is great.
