question about a band

hey i've got a question for you guys who know about the music business. i run sound for a band that has been together 4 months and are starting to play gigs around our area. The band is working on writing up a contract for future gigs, and are preparing to work on a demo. my question is this: do they trademark the band name, make the band into a corportation or both? right now they have a few more gigs in the coming month or so that they are gonna do for free but any new gigs they line up they want to use the contract with. trademark the name, its expensive so they better plan on being a band for a while. you don't need to make the band a corporation, not any time soon anyway. make sure the songs are all copyrigthed (form PA).the demo can be copyrighted too (form SR) but its not necessary untill/if you've recorded the "real" album.

do you have to copyright every song you make, or can you copyright a cd or demo as a whole which would be cheaper.
