I think I started a post about it not long ago. I decided to keep the quad but this came up for real cheap so I just bought it to sell on and make a couple hundred £. This is only my opinion but I think the quad is better. Ok, its not as versatile and it doesn't have the features and stuff but in terms of sound I much prefer it to the triaxis. Again this is just my opinion. To me it just sounds more real. Yeah the quad rocks, take care

I was wondering if anyone was gonna catch that.

I run a pretty unorthodox setup for bass. After I crossover the signal, I run only the top portion through a chorus (not seen...it is in the back) and into the 20/20. My cabinet is a custom made job that has 2-15's down low and stereo 2-10's (driven by the 20/20) up high. It really sounds great!

Yay! Now I can play now :) Finally got pics of my rig. It's still under construction so cut me a little bit of slack please ;) I just ordered my Line 6 Echo Pro. Got it for $250 shipped. Also my pedal drawer is subject to change. I'm still up in the air as to which pedals to throw on there. Hi-Band Flanger is a def. Either the Bad Stone or Small Stone (or both) will make it. Lo-Fi 7 is most likely a keeper. It's tough cause 4 of my ins/outs on my Switchblade are taken up w just the 3 rack units and my fx loop. If I decide to run the phasers which would most likely be in front of my preamp, that means I have to plug my gtr into the Switchblade as well. That would leave 3 loops for pedals. Still have wiring to do. First pic is of my pedalboard. Left to right:

Rocktron All Access
Ernie Ball Volume/Expression Pedal
Teese RMC-3 Wah
Boss TU-2 Tuner
VHT Valvulator
Calzone Pedalboard

Calzone is literally 20 min from me. I was originally looking at Fulltone's but the 16x27 wasn't big enough. I got this 18 x 32 for $40 as opposed to the $135 for a 16x27. Slapped the handles on myself and some feet! Cha'ching!

Oh in the prev. pic I still need to make my Evidence Audio cables - I'm prob. going to take the ends off those Monsters and solder them onto the Evidence Audio Cable to save the $6.50 per Right angle for Neutrik's. Do you think this will be worse off tonally than if I went w the Neutrik's?

Power cables zip tied and wrapped on left.

On right -

Axess Electronics CFX-4
Midi Solutions 1x4

The only other thing I want to add to the rack is a Midi Solutions clocking device to synce the Echo Pro and Mod Pro to a tap tempo switch. I haven't figured out how to get the G Force to clock to an outside source, but per TC's website it is unable to clock to an external advice. Anyone know for sure if this si true? Any way around it? It's a simple rig, but it is perfect for my needs. My amp is my tone machine - one 4x12 - mono set-up. Trust me I'd love the Wet/dry/wet set-up but there just isn't room for that. Someday soon if all goes well.

I love the BBE. It really gives me the detail and sonic separation I want. The DTR-1 is nice. I had a RA450 Peterson which got to be too much. It took up 3 spaces. Feature-wise, the you can't beat the DTR-1.

My cable connectors are all switchcraft. Cables are from a little known company called Purity Audio. They aren't bad and prices are decent! I use Mogami, Canare and Belden as well.

morris
03-12-2003, 02:39 PM
Amory, they are 2x12's V30's. It may look a bit deceiving because the cabs are relatively big for 2 x12's. Also the wood is about 1,5 times thicker than regular cabs like Marshalls. That's also why they sound the way they do. (awesome );)

Could easily play ANYWHERE in DFW with that equipment... Club Clearview...yeah Right!?! Trees...??? Whatever! DFW is not the place to showcase. The road is where it's at.

The last place decent enough to play in Dallas was Dallas City Limits. Now it's the Gentleman's Club (What an oxymoron). On the Rocks or The Rock is the bottom of the barrel. The Bomb Factory is defunct. So there you have it.

I'll just take my Vox Pathfinder and Strat to the "Hole in the Wall" and play a few. :D Don't even need any pedals! :)

Use the 'big stuff' for studio work. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Terri,
i was thinking more along the lines of Tarrany Co. Conventioon Center, Stars Center, Fair Park, Morton meyerson, etc..
the clubs eh, they pretty much are depressing

you know, speaking of small amps for clubs, I have been consistiently surprised by one of Dallas' finest (in my opinion) local band, the Reverend Horton Heat.
Fender VibroKing, Super Reverb, and a couple of boxes, LOUD as hell. Early last month here in Lubbock, he played with a black face twin and a SF super. Very loud, very crunchy.

Those that you speak of aren't "small". The Super and Twin both are really loud. At 100 watts, they are the same as a Marshall Super Lead. I, on the other hand, use "small" amps. The Deluxe is a mere 20 watts and the Cambridge and PathFinder both are 15 watts. Now that's small. (On a side note, I didn't know that the Reverend was still around. After the death of their guitar player I thought it was over for them.)

Death of the Rev's guitar player?

Hmm.. damn I would hope not. Jim Heath while no Vai, is still a pretty decent picker. I havent read any info on anybody in the group ever dying. Was this a recent thing?
Not sure if id miss the playing or singing by him more. Not the best voice either, but it suits the music perfectly.

I guess those amps arent exactly small hehehe. I would like to eventually hook up with a pair of Fender Deluxes or two of those 15 watt marshall combos. Nice little stereo rig.

Terri,
i think we are talking about two completely different bands..

I was referring to the Reverend Horton Heat.
i know they have changed bass players once or twice, and since 85 have had i think either 3 or 4 different drummers, but Jim Heath has been the only constant guy.. But I have friend who saw him back in dallas in the mid 80's and verified last months it has been the same guy.

speaking opf dallas bands, one i am sad to see pass (although a LONG time ago.. like what.. 10 years?) were the Loco Gringos. Nowhere close to being great players, but one has to admit they borught a certain level of tequila fueled madness to the stage

They weren't doing the mods on it then that they offer now (Warren Haynes thang, etc). Once they stopped selling direct and forced you to use a music store the priced jumped up 50%! I lucked out and got right in before they did that.

The guitar rack has a the Soldano SLO-100, Soldano X99 preamp, and a Palmer PGA-04. I can't say enough good things about all that gear.

Way out of my budget, still nice kit though.

One thing i have been a bit confused about the soldano preamps.. isnt the X99 pretty much an SP77 with midi control?
I have read some conflicting information that goes both ways on the issue, and I would like to know, to satisfy my curiousity if nothing else.

now, speaking of SP77's where the hell are all the Japanese models? Ebay seems to at any given time have 3-5 American made SP77's but i havent seen a Japanese one in a LONG time, and by how the prices are shooting up again, it looks like an import peice is all I will be able to afford for a while (damn the whole "save up for summer school" thing)

I think the SP77 is not the same as a 2 channel X99 or X88R. I played the SP77 and the X99.

The SP77 had similar clean/crunch. The X99 crunch had more depth and the X99 overdrive channel had much more gain than the SP77...as I recall. Also, I think the SP77 was made oversease with and not in house. Not that I care too much about that.

The X99 is like 128 SLO-100s: they sound identical. The only difference is you can engage the BRIGHT switch on the overdrive channel on the X99; you cannot do this on the SLO.

I bought the X99 on Ebay about 4 years ago for about $1400 or so. It's awesome. Easy and simple to use, great tones, superb s/n. I thought it was the coolest thing when it came out but I didn't have the money then and by waiting, I could afford it and get it at a better price. Believe this: the guy on ebay sold it because he had two. Bought one for backup but since he never had a problem after years he old the second one!

I got my SLO-100 head direct from Soldano around 1990-91.

It's a Heritage 150-CM with AAA flame maple top and matching maple pickguard. I replaced the Schaller pups with SD Jazz and JB's. It's a terrific guitar, lighter than the LP Standard on the right, but essentially a LP copy. Not sure why it is lighter than the LP bacause the have the same depth and dimensions.

Hey, about the Herritage. How do you like it compared with the LP?? I read ed romans comparison of those two guitars and the prs sc and he made some good points regarding herritages. Anyways, for that thick LP sound, does it work just as good as a regular LP?? Nice top btw, i really like the blue burst color you have!

Thanks for the good words. I like the Heritage alot. I got it new in 1989. I have a Torres bluesbucker harness in it with SD pickups, so it sounds different than the LP. But it is just as lush as the LP. The stock Schallers were good, but I got tired of them. The Heritage's workmanship is outstanding. I would get another, but they are not available locally in my area.

The guitar rack has a the Soldano SLO-100, Soldano X99 preamp, and a Palmer PGA-04. I can't say enough good things about all that gear.

The bass rack has a Kern 777 preamp, Crown K2 power amp (heavy!), and FMR RNC.]

Hey Amory!

I have a third rack coming, wich will contain the Wireless, stage tuner, In ear and another Furman. I'll only bring it along for the big shows. That's why there is another powercon out on the back of the top rack.
Just trying to keep it portable and modular. ;) ;)

Hey Maarten,

Actually Paul built the whole rig. So I don't know where he gets his parts... Perhaps you could drop him a line?
I don't feel it would be right to share the financial stuff, because he is a good friend, and his prices vary on the kind of job he needs to do. I don't want people to get the wrong impression, just by stating a number. However, I can tell you that he is worth his weight in gold. A lot of colleagues use his services...
The switcher is right behind the Deja Vibe, an Axess GRX4.
The purple thingie is a custom PL powerunit, made by Paul.

Morris:

I've got a split rack setup kinda like you do. My biggest gripe about this is the fact that I've gotta run power cables and effects cables between units at every show, something I didn't have to do with a large rack. My racks have rear rails, and there's plenty of room above my poweramp (two spaces) for one of those power distro-type things.

Did you make those yourself or were they made by Paul as well? I'd absolutely love to be able to go "okay... wire... wire... done"!

morris
04-27-2003, 02:56 AM
I didn't make them myself, although it's pretty easy to do!
You just need to get the powercon connectors at your hardware store. They are easy to get around here, I don't know about where you live. They are very similar to speakon connectors.
Its just + , - and ground.
Dont forget to put some shrink rubbers around the connectors, to avoid touching hot wire.

I'm gonna go down to the local hardware megastore with a picture of that and find out if they have any. I don't know if you're in Europe or the USA (judging by the amps, I'd assume Europe, since there's not many Engl cabs and heads over here).

I've got a Yamaha CP2000 poweramp and a Korg DTR-2000 in one rack, and the rest of my stuff in another. My power conditioner is in the large rack. I hate having to run power cables, 1/4" cables, etc through the racks, and some kind of patch bay like that would be fucking amazing.

I'll look into it. Thanks for the help.

morris
04-27-2003, 02:11 PM
If the hardware store doesn't carry them, any descent music store that carries speakon should also carry powercon connectors.
They are standard issue in FOH systems....

I just went down to Lowes, and all they had were these heavy duty mega-locking ones. They probably wouldn't fit in a 1U space. I bought one of each type to see, and I ended up getting the wrong sizes. The male end was about $9, the female end about $16! Needless to say they're on the way back to the store in a few minutes.

Unfortunately I'm not in a really big place, so I don't have many places to check. I'll call GC on Monday but I'm almost absolutely sure they won't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Going to Neutrik's site, though... it says they're 250V. I'm thinking I might need 120V. Hmm.

Alex Aguilar -- of bass amplification fame-- modded the loop so it feeds into the power amp section. When I plug the X99 or fx send into the return of the SLO, it automatically bypasses the SLO preamp section.
