The Sonuus is the cheapest right now:

http://sonuus.com/products.html

Pros: Can use your existing guitar without having to mod it, cheap ($99)
Cons: Monophonic, not Polyphonic, tracking not as good as the more expensive stuff, will need some type of synth to make sounds

Note that you will have to change the way you play to really make any midi guitar work.

Wow, I'd never heard of the YouRockGuitar. I want one.

I was going to purchase a YAMAHA EZ-AG, but I'll hold off for this.

Cheers

Of course there are non real time options

Just record single string guitar audio tracks and use software to convert these tracks to MIDI note on/off data.

WIDI Audio to MIDI VST

Cakewalk Sonar has a "wave to MIDI " function built in too

Sometimes you can find great deals on older model used Roland guitar synths. I recently saw a GR50 on Craig's List really cheap. I think it was like $50.

I'll say buy a used GK-2A pick up and temporarily install in on whaever guitar you own. Not necessarily the easiest or best option, but cheepish.

I did a review of the Sonuus G2M in the Harmony Central Confidential Newsletter (http://www.harmony-central.com/Newsletter/) a few issues back. It includes an audio example, screen shots, indicates how much/little you need to edit the notes, etc. The review (http://www.harmony-central.com/articles/reviews/sonuusg2m/) is now hosted in the Articles Library.

I just took a quick look at the YouRock guitar and it seems like it would be a great tool for beginners and gamers, but I'm just wondering what the applications would be for serious high tech guitarists?

I'm gonna leave it and my Sonic Cell at work in my office. When I take a break I can work on building up my presets...

With a standard midi out you dont need any.

It has a 5 pin out so you dont need any specific apps. You can go into any Keyboard synth, sampler, or computer interface which has a 5 pin input directly.

I have no idea how it actually performs, it could be junk, but it appears theres no tracking involved, very similar to how the old synthaxe controllers worked. The question will be how sensitive the "frets" will be and will there be velocity sensitivity with the strings.

i would pretty much just use it as midi controller

I'd use it as a way to get chords and rhythm parts into a DAW
