Since I got my VG-99 recently I've been using it with my GK- equipped Strat and PRS. Last night I tried plugging my Les Paul (non-GK) into the Guitar In jack just to see what it sounded like as an effects unit. I was pretty surprised at how good it sounded. Of course a lot of the patches were different without the modeling, synth waveforms, etc. but the effects alone gave me some very trippy synth-like sounds with a regular guitar. It was also nice to be able to use the pickup selector on my guitar to get a variety of tones in realtime without having to go into an edit menu to change the modeled pickup.
Just wondering if others here have used the VG-99 with a regular guitar and if there's anything anyone wanted to share about that?

I sold my VG-99, but I used it a few times with a 'normal' guitar with great results. The one thing that alot is not said about is, the VG-99 has a couple of bass amps and effect models in it too. I plugged in my bass and got really good results without the need for a VG99B.

I use it all the time.
And the really cool thing about it: some patches, sound TOTALLY DIFFERENT when connected via the mag input versus the hex input.
And also totally cool.
Bill: would any of these spots be familiar to any of us or are they mostly regional in the Illinois area? It would be interesting to hear how you're using the device for the ad spot/jingle scene.

Yesterday was five TV spots for McDonald,s.
Four of them were light rock things and I used the mag input for various sounds.
I did use a leslie sound on one of the tracks.
Mostly clean stuff doubling an acoustic guitar track. Overdubs would be a counter jangle lines and some light overdrive. And then a melody tag.
The fifth spot they want a very heavy rock thing like Metalica. It was some kid with a race car flying through the air.
I used the VG input for that dropping the guitar down to the key of C.
Heavy recto distortion in stereo and it was as big as a house!
(I thought it was WAY to heavy for the spot but they loved it...go figure)
The VG-99 does that so well its crazy! Drop tunes in a 1/4 of a second.
On a side note I did the tracks at the Leo Burnett agency here in Chicago, That is where the show "Mad Men" is taken from. I have talked to old timers there and they remember that kind of stuff. Retro cool!!!
