i`m a infant to the world of midi . i have a vg88 that i would use to trigger a roland xv5050. is there anything special that i have to do beside match the midi channel. any help would be very appraited

Sorry, The VG-88 does not perform Guitar To MIDI conversion. Same goes for the older VG-8, VG-8EX - all these do NOT perform Guitar to MIDI conversion.
However, these older Roland units do have great sounds and they DO respond to your playing faster than ANY guitar to MIDI converter

Affordable Guitar to MIDI using your existing GK-2A or GK-3A hex PU mounted on your Guitar requires buying a used Roland GR-30, or GR-20, GI-10, or GI-20, or Axon AX50, AX100.
The recent Roland VG-99 does Guitar to MIDI too.
But the Older VG-8, VG-88 do Not.
