Any gear recommended for Sampling/looping rhythm guitar tracks that can be triggered/slaved via Midi control ? I've read reviews on a Boss unit that doesnt seem highly recommended.... doesnt seem to be many out there with a Midi in.....

The Electro-Harmonix 2880 is your friend. Midi triggering is one of the many (many) things that the 2880 is capable of.
The manual (found here (http://www.ehx.com/products/2880/product-photo) in PDF form) will give you an idea of what the pedal can and can't do with MIDI information.
