My wife and I decided to do it every 5 years. This September will be our 5th year anniversary. We will be going to Laguna Beach/Catalina Island. I have been doing a little research and apparently it can just be her and I saying our own written vows to each other. I want to keep it simple but I'm curious if anyone has any experience in this with or without anyone else involved?

No.

Then again, I've never been married. :D

Yes.

My wife and I renewed our vows on our ten year anniversary, just the two of us, at a beautiful setting near the beach in Santa Barbara.

Best,

Geoff

So did you write your own new vows to each other?

Thanks for elaborating.

Hmmm, your question was "Has anyone here ever renewed their wedding vows with their spouse?". That doesn't ask for elaboration, regardless of explanatory comments on your part.

That said, we not only reviewed our vows, we actually got married a second time in an official marriage ceremony.

I think my wife and I will do so but not right now even though we are celebrating 10 years this October. Ideally, I would book a trip to Hawaii for 10 days and have a private ceremony overlooking the ocean to renew our vows, just the two of us and some minister.

Who knows? Maybe some gig will come up in the meanwhile and make this happen.

Sounds to me like renewing vows = excuse for cool vacation. :)

No, we used the original vows that we wrote for our wedding.

You renew your vows every day by doing the right thing ;)

Neither of my two failed marriages lasted long enough for us to renew anything.

of course, I do that almost every day

I learned that from James Brown, the king of vows

the marriage most often holds until the next morning, if she doesn't leave when I sleep

So, um, are you considering the 3rd times a charm?

I've been with the same woman for 30 years.
We're not married.
Another institution I don't believe in.
