There is a Jackson for sale, I will enclose a photo. I will be seeing it in person tomorrow. The owner says that it is a san dimas from 88-89.

Well I have looked at the Jackson website and things dont quite jive.

The guitar on the front of the headstock has the Jackson Logo and then says "Made in the USA" (just like my 07 KE-2) and on the back apparantly is signed by grover jackson and says #15/100 as if it was part of a 100 guitar run.

Where things start to conflict is that the neck plate of this bolt on guitar says Made In San Dimas but the 4 Digit serial number begins with a 4 which according to Jacksons web site would mean it was made in Ontario.

Someone suggested that they used old parts from San Dimas but this does not sound likely to me for something like a neck plate.

I dont think it is in original state, it has a Jackson single coil in the neck and a SD Distortion in the bridge. Also there is an "on/off" switch the owner said was not stock that someone had put on there before. My only guess as to why would be if the gutiar came with the Jackson pups with the preamp cicuit and battery. That is just my guess.

Does anyone have any ideas to figure out what this guitar is and where it was actually made and a fair price? He is asking 700 bucks.

Thanks in advance,
Tom:poke:

In the late eighties the Jackson USA stuff was made in Ontario. At that time the company was owned by Akai (wierd huh) People seem to hang on to the San Dimas location even though they weren't there that long.

It probably isn't meant to garner a high price (he'd be asking a lot more if he really thought it were a real San Dimas model)

It looks a little beat for 7 bills although it isn't that far off the mark I don't think.

Yes it looks worn and likely not stock, but what confuses me is the name plate saying san dimas and the serial number being an ontario one. That means that either jackson used a san dimas plate even though it came from ontario or it is a fake plate because the four digit serial number starts with a 4which according to Jackson means it was a custom bolt on from ontario which would be just fine with me, I would rather it say ontario and have an ontario serial number than say san dimas and have it be fake. For whatever reason the San Dimas Jacksons do fetch higher prices, perhaps because they were only made there for a short period of time.

I will check it out in person tomorrow to see the condition and how it plays etc. but would like to konw what I was buying and why the name plate issue, also if the signature was legit.

It looks much like my friends Charvel Model 6 in body and finish.
He had listed it as wanting to trade for a bass but said it was a real San Dimas Jackson so not to make him 300 buck bass offers. He is an adult and when I asked him how much for cash he said 700.

If it were not for the number not matching the location on the plate I would just check it out for playability and condition, but I dont like it when things are misrepresented so I dont understand how this could happen if it was legit.

With some guitars one can run the serial number and find out what it was when it was made what plant it was made at etc from just the serial number.

Is there such a place to run the serial number on this one?

I think the idea was that Charvel constructed their guitars well at the original shop in San Dimas so a Jackson that was part of a 100 guitar run was likely well constructed. That is my guess.
