Well I just landed, and contrary to rumor, you can find free wi-fi at the Frankfurt airport if you connect to the ICE network that's accessible if you're in the area of the 24 Bar... :)
John Jennings from Royer was on the same flight, and showed me the new stereo tube ribbon mic they'll be introducing at Messe. Andre from Moog Music was sitting in front of me on the plane, and he had the Moog guitar with him. Apparently it's been updated and he'll be playing it at the booth. They also have a new Moog keyboard that's all analog - nothing digital at all - not even presets for memory.
I got a cell phone video from each of them and will work them into the preview video I'll be doing tonight in my hotel room if all goes well.
Time to catch a train into town...

I presume that's a reference to the Voyager Old School... which may well be on display... but it's not new.

I'd be interested to hear what is updated on the Moog guitar. I saw that at NAMM, and to my surprise, was completely underwhelmed. It sounded like a cheap guitar when played "normally", and was not worth the US$6000 price tag, in my opinion.
What was that Royer, the SF24 V?

I'm still waiting for clarification from Mr. Anderton on this. Not fair getting us all excited about a "new" keyboard that apparently turns out to be an existing model that will go out of production after the last 100 are sold.

I had the same thoughts during Musikmesse presentation.
I haven't heard such a bad guitar tone in years, if ever

Apparently the Moog Guitar "update" did not include an update to its "tonal" properties.
That's the problem with deciding on a proprietary string driver that serves double duty as a pickup - nearest example, the Sustainiac Stealth. Whatever solution you choose, a lot of guitarists will be unhappy with your choice. I haven't heard the Stealth, but if it was, say, voiced to sound like a vintage Strat single coil, a lot of guitarists that are looking for an EMG type sound or a hotter PU sound will be unhappy. But if you go with the hotter PU, the vintage enthusiasts will be unhappy. Damned if you, damned if you don't...

The problem is that this Moog guitar didn't sound bad because it was sounding as HB, when I was expecting single coil. It was just bad, bad, bad tone, with no space, completely flat, dead, kartoon-ish, unispiring clean tone. On the level of the cheapest guitar with old strings plugged into the cheapest low-level amp. Really, any Squier plugged into Microcube would sound so much better that this Moog-thing. It was jaw droping experience (in a bad way).

I was gonna say... "but, Fareed Haque plays one!"... then I read his rig is a Boss ME-50 into a Polytone amp. :D
Oh well, I guess some players can make a Squier sound like a genuine pre-CBS Strat.
