I was recently stung by TradeTang HongKong International when I bought 2 supposedly American made guitars on their website. The seller, whoose user name is wanglaoj117, showed photos of a vintage Ventures Model Mosrite 12 string and a Rickenbacker 370-12 guitars. After verifying availability and guaranteed that "What you see in picture is what you get" I placed an order for one of each. What I actually received were 2 counterfeit "Rickenbacker 12 string guitars probably made by angry Mongols in the Gobi Desert. Evidently the English words "Bait and Switch" and "Consumer Protection" do not translate well into the Chinese language. Neither does "Remorse" for screwing you after the deal is made. Do not buy from HongKong unless you can accept the fact that you will not get what you think you are paying for and you will be screwed.

Charles D. Carter, R.A.; I'm sorry for your losses, but your blatant Hong Kong racism
needs to be addressed. Maybe it's my Scottish Highland ancestry, and the
fact that both Chinese and Japanese governments turned to Scottish people
for help dealing with Europeans, after the Chinese defeated the British led Opium War.
You're tossing out "bait and switch" and "consumer protection" as failings for these people.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
You should try living near an American border city, like I do with Niagara Falls,
if you want to learn some illegal economic tricks.
You should be wondering why the American government doesn't have
extradition laws covering some financial crimes, such as various stock frauds.
That's right! Your citizens can travel the world committing different financial
crimes and beat it back home to avoid prosecution.
Why were those laws changed that way?
If I was you I'd be angry at my onshore manufacturers for failing me,
getting into offshore in the first place,
taking advantage of slave wage labor from the start.
How can you expect good business and preferential attitudes to grow from that?
Obviously, you can't.
as always, John Watt

John,
I live outside Buffalo New York and know what you mean. The thing is, I still got scammed and will continue my crusade how ever long it takes to prevent someone else from falling prey to Chinese tactics. I served in Viet Nam and learned first hand that you cannot mistake a smile for friendship with these folks. Western ideology does not apply to a society over a thousand year old.
They are out to make a buck any way they can. There was no American manufacturerer involved in this deal at all. Pure and simple it was counterfeit goods in a bait and switch operation and I will do what I can to spare others the same fate.

I actually bought the guitar about 5 months ago, absolutely love it. Fantastic playing guitar, and very versatile.

Did you intentionally by an import or did you receive one as a substitution - it makes a difference if you knew beforehand what you were getting. I did not. Nor was I warned of the bait and switch deception. That is why I'm upset. If you are pleased, then I'm happy for you. I was deceived and want to spare others the same fate.
Some folks defend the Chinese tasctics, I do not and hope they crack down on all imports that are counterfeit. Until then, I will defend my position.
