Roland have posted full details of their new V-Piano on their site (see http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=978&ParentId=72). This is PianoTeq-like full simulation of a piano, hammers, 3-strings, dampers, sound-board and all. NO SAMPLES! So quite a revolution in the digital piano world. Really looking forward to hearing this in practice.
And Yamaha seem are hinting at their own revolutionary piano, but doesn't look like they've adopted the same technology yet, though it is clearly now mature (see http://www.yamaha.com/namm/w2009/press.html?CTID=5042913&SUB_CAT_ID=5042913&DDL_CAT=5042920&VNM=LIVE&LGFL=N). A pity as they were formerly way ahead of the game with their VL1 physical modelling synth in the mid-90s. They should have applied that technology to pianos years ago and now the competition have caught up & overtaken them!
Will be interesting to see how the two firms present their competing wares at NAMM 2009! ;)
