Holy mother of music...this is the most exciting and impressive music software announcement i've ever seen by a long, long way.
In Live 8:
Updates: There were too many, I can't remember. Go here and watch the video: www.ableton.com/home
But included is a new percussion instrument, a properly live looper (much sought after), a vocoder, crossfades, some new plugins, groove editor and all manner of super-useful workflow improvements.
PLUS (and this relates to the below as well) a fully integrated new service for sharing music that, again, you should watch the video 'cos its too much to explain here. Suffice to say that it makes internet music collaboration (as well as sharing the many, many creations that will be made with the below) extremely intuitive and easy.
New products for Live:
Max For Live: exactly what it says. From Cycling '74, the developers of Max the visual programming language for music. A new product that allows you to create, integrate and edit Max patches within Live, taking advantage of all the functions native Live plugins can (so you can blow vsts away).
Akai APC40: An amazing looking APC midi controller that is purpose made for Live. Looks like THE controller for any Live user.
I'm gushing a little but seriously, Ableton has to be the most ambitious music software company out there now.
The only thing missing from it for me now is automation improvements, which have been the subject of a long recent discussion in their forum and hopefully will be a part of Live 9.
Also, for a much better description of everything try here:

So if anyone at NAMM fancies a trip to the Ableton/Cycling '74 booth to nag them for details I for one would be much obliged.
Obviously price and release date would be nice (although I doubt they'll give much away).
Relative CPU usage increases would be good to know as well.
Edit: Ableton pricing is announced, MaxForLive isn't.
