Well, despite the dire economic forecast, Winter NAMM '09 is open for business. Or it will be Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. Here's a shot of the convention center, on Wednesday afternoon. People are still arriving and loading in, but already the pundits are punditizing. Check back here often, and if you're at the show, please post your photos here, preferably with a brief caption.

I have a new video camera on its way to me - I was hoping it would arrive today so I could bring it with me tomorrow, but it's being delivered tomorrow... :(

The first day is going to be exciting I heard there is a party at the a Marriot after the first day

There's parties and after-show events pretty much every night except Sunday... The Marriott, which is just off screen to the left in Jon's picture [the Hilton - another after-show hangout - is off screen to the right], has been home to Yamaha for the past several years - they have their displays in there, as opposed to inside the convention center.

One of the nicest things I saw in the way of guitars was the revival of the family of acoustic guitars made under several brand names by the Larson brothers in Chicago. These brought back memories of a number of the "pretty" (and pretty good sounding) guitars that the folk players of the '60s dug up, names like Prairie State, Maurer, Stahl, and Stetson. I was friendly with a few of these in my folkie days. They were the first major manufacturer specializing in steel string guitars.

Check out http://www.larsonbros.de/ The pictures are Flash frames, so people as ignorant as I about these things can't easily copy and post them here, but you'll see some pretty stuff, and if you read the history you'll learn about an important and large manufacturer that never got the reputation of Martin and Gibson, but who produced some really nice instruments.

nothing. looks like a spring or something screwed in where the neck pickup would be... from what I remember of the real thing, thats a detail meant to keep it authentic
