Too bad I have the anti amp bug... also known as marriage

Ain't it the truth?

If I bought this, it would break up my family

Looking at the info at the mesaboogie site is like looking at porn...

I hope I can find something not to like about the amp when I try it out someday - with the discrete tone controls and power settings per channel, it seems they have approached the perfect amp.

I think we owe it to ourselves to create a thread listing the Mark V's faults to make us feel better...

eg.

- The clean channel doesn't sound as good as the one on the LoneStar

- There is no MIDI control built in

- There should be an effects loop for each channel

- There should be built-in effects

- It should have 128 patch memories

- There should be a separate graphic eq per channel

There, I'm starting to feel better already :D

Hmmm...in reading the specs on mesa's website. Theres a bias switch on the back for 6l6/el34, It does mention that you can run el34's in just the outside pair...so where the f*ck would you run the bias switch.

You'd run it on 6L6, just like you could in the old Mark IVs.

Thanks for the video. Though it's hilarious when the interviewer asks if 3 channels might be too much for guitarists, because they are used to having only 2

I have to say the front panel is laid out so well, and it seems like they put a lot of thought into this. Finally, no shared tone controls, and a versatile graphic eq for all three channels - not to mention the power options per channel.

Boy if I was 19 again. Back in the day, I scraped together just enough money to get a Mark IIB - no reverb or EQ though. So it was either a great clean amp or a great solo amp - it's always a compromise with shared tone controls.

Is the pricing for this amp known yet?
Anybody have an idea how much it's gonna cost?

I've heard $2000 and $2100 for the head. Haven't heard about the combo, but typically they're about $150 more than the head.

PRICING INFO:

Head is $2000 U.S. fixed price (Mesa Pro-Net pricing or whatever it's called, same as video game systems and such things with locked-in pricing across the retail channel).

Combo is $100 more.

Premium dealers are taking pre-orders now, not sure about more traditional places like Guitar Centers, but if you call up a dealer from the official list of dealers on their website, they'll take a pre-order. Make'N Music in Chicago is taking preorders for 20% down (including sales tax, not just on the base price), so a combo all in in Chicago (highest sales tax in the country) is like $2400 and change after everything.

The Combo is basically the same form factor as a MK IV widebody, according to them, so it'll be like when I look at my Rectoverb 1x12, and wonder why it's wider, deeper and heavier than my Orange Rockerverb 2x12 :)

Make'N Music will also have 1 of the collectible ones in the purple (I think he said purple) tolex, they're only making like 40 or 100 or some such number, ever, but that's $4000, and I think that only comes in the combo.

While the smart effects loops of the V3 are cool, the Mark V lets you adjust power amp wattage per channel - so you can crank power amp section of the lead or crunch channels without all the volume. Good-bye frizzies.
